Back in the day people wanted more scenes with the playable characters. They wanted to be able to find them on the map as NPCs mostly to be able to take pictures with them. Then we had an event that gave me an idea. Instead of these guys just being NPCs on the map, what if miHoYo came up with a bunch of scenes for a random assortment of these characters, scatters them across the map and then as we play we just have chance encounters should we happen to go to those specific locations on days the scenes are active. It'd be a really fun bonus and something for people to share since you'd never know when you'd get them.
Traveler's Tales is almost that idea. Unfortunately while you do have to go to a specific spot on a day when those scenes become available, the way miHoYo set it up was to have those cameos show up on the map and during a limited period when the event was up. They've since removed that last part by making the event into a permanent feature. However it's still stuff that shows up on the map and the scenes you're missing are listed on a menu screen.
The biggest issue I have with it though is that it isn't quite little scenes. Some of them actually tell stories just not ones that were thought out enough to be included into a full quest. In the end it almost feels like scrapped ideas the devs had that they didn't want to go to waste so they repurposed them. Funny enough though they also came up with something that resembled my idea much better. You can now visit the character Columbina every day and she'll be doing something different. There's no markers or telltale signs of what she might be doing on any given day and there aren't any rewards to collect for visiting her every day. Instead it's just something to do to see what she's up to.
Anyway this video's just the major stories for the current version. I'll have the smaller scenes in a follow-up video.
