Nerissa is a proud warrior of the water. Armed with her enchanted trident, she defends the seas, the rivers, and the lakes. She is well known across coastal villages, and they often call on her for help. She has slain great sea beasts that would otherwise kill everyone in their path. She has rescued sailors from hurricanes and even warned villages of incoming tsunamis to save lives. Her bravery and brilliance in battle have led to her being called Nerissa the Hurricane.

Greetings, fellow Splinterlands summoners. This week's challenge is about sharing your strategies for certain rulesets. One of my favorite rulesets is the one that strips your cards of all their special abilities, called Back to Basics.

Sheilds will still work, but sneak, snipe, and opportunity attacks will be disabled unless the archon grants them, so the best form of attack is magic because it will go past the sheilds and do the most damage.

This was a Back to Basics battle as well as a poisonous gas ruleset, so I needed to hit them with a lot of magic fast, faster than the gas could kill my cards. My opponent had the same idea, but I brought more magical punch to the battle.
Nerissa Tridawn

Both of us used Djinn Oshannus. He's a good card, but even at MAX level, he only throws out 3 hit damages of magic, but Nerissa Tridawn hits hard with 5 magic attack damage. She doesn't have any special abilities, as having 11 health and 5 magic attack is sufficient. I remember dreaming of having her at MAX level when Chaos Legion came out, but I didn't have hundreds of dollars to spend on just one card. Well, as you all painfully know, the prices dived, and I was finally able to afford her. Right now, you can pick up a MAX copy of her for just $4! I probably spent about $20 to get her at MAX, but I feel bad for all of those who FOMO'd at the beginning and dropped a few hundred bucks on her like I wanted to. She may have taken a hit to her pricetag, but she still kicks ass in battle. If you're a new player and want to level up your magic attack game, then she's a must-have. Even at level one, she does plenty of damage and has 9 health.
Shock Trooper

Another card both of us used for this battle was the Shock Trooper. I try to stay away from using this card because he causes friendly fire damage to his fellow cards, but in the Back to Basics ruleset, he is a must-select card because he dishes out a lot of damage for only 4 mana without hurting his own team. I'd love to get him to MAX-level, but I don't know if I'll get him there before the reward cards change out.
Do you know when the new reward cards will come out? Has the team made any announcements about it yet? It seems like it's been a long time. I've MAXed all of the common and rare cards, got most of the epics to level 4, and have all but one of the legendaries, so I'm happy with what I got, but now that there's Survival Mode, having multiple copies of the same cards doesn't feel like a waste like it used to.

Thanks for reading about my Back to Basics and Nerissa Tridawn battle today. Magic spamming is a crude and thoughtless strategy in Splinterlands, but it works, and a lot of people and bots use it like a crutch. If you're a new player and are looking to level up your deck, I would recommend focusing on getting strong magic cards first. You should also get at least one good tank for each splinter to absorb the frontal attacks, and you'll likely win a lot more. I used to curse all the magic spammers, but after a while, I decided I couldn't beat 'em, so I joined 'em.
