El juego se divide en 4 equipos, cada equipo tiene 3 personajes:
Equipo Sonic: Sonic, Tails y Knuckles
Equipo Dark: Shadow, Rouge y Omega
Equipo Rose: Amy, Cream y Big
Equipo Chaotix: Espio, Vector y Charmy
