If there is a game that marked the era of the 90s, this is undoubtedly one of the favourites, because although Sweet Home in 1989 and Alone in The Dark in 1992 marked the beginning of the games catalogued as Survival Horror, it was this one that took it to its maximum expression, initiating a sequel that went on to books and films.

Resident Evil, created by Shinji Mikami, a talented Japanese developer, was released in 1996 by Capcom.

The game is set in Spencer Manor, located on the outskirts of Raccoon City, where a special forces team, known as S.T.A.R.S., is sent to investigate a series of strange murders.

Players can choose between two main characters, Chris Redfield and Jill Valentine, each with their own strengths and weaknesses.

As players explore the mansion, they encounter a variety of terrifying enemies, such as zombies, infected dogs and mutated creatures, which keep them on constant tension and alert.

Gameplay focuses on exploration, puzzle solving and limited resource management, as players must find weapons, ammunition and key items to advance the story and unravel the mansion's dark secrets.

One of the highlights of Resident Evil is its unsettling atmosphere and its ability to generate scares and shocks for players.

The game uses fixed camera angles and pre-rendered backgrounds to create a sense of claustrophobia and unease, while music and sound effects add to the tension and suspense.

Resident Evil has been hailed as one of the pioneers of the survival horror genre and has spawned numerous sequels, spin-offs and adaptations in other forms of media, such as films and television series.

The original game was initially released for Sony's PlayStation video game console, in 1997 it was adapted for the PC.

After its initial success, Resident Evil was also adapted and released for other platforms, such as Sega Saturn, PC, Nintendo GameCube, and later for more modern consoles such as PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch.

A terrific classic of the horror genre, the remake is also wonderful.

When it came out it was a great success and it has been growing with the new releases.

Yeah, I think this is the most profit horror franchise in gaming.

In fact, Resident Evil (if I'm not mistaken) is the creator of the Survival Horror genre, and with that I say it all, is one of the best I've played. Very good post

Not the creator but one of the pioneers and the most successful, Sweet Home is considered to be the first game of its kind.

From what I know, Alone in the dark was the true first game of the survival horror genre.
