Greetings, fellow sentient beings!

Our Western Shores board game project about Vikings exploring the unknown continues.

After some play testing I reached the conclusion the game was flowing too slow for my taste (and initial intentions to which I am still bound) and part of the reason for that was calculating available resources was too hard. There are five types of resources a card could cost in Revision VIII.

I think of Revision IX rather as a Soft Fork in that regard, meaning I want to try a version of the game with less types of resources to pay attention to.

So far, the five have been...

Wait for it...here are the ridonculous images I painted with a digital brush (not vectorized because they are not final) and used for the purpose of play testing.

So,

The Resources in Revision VIII:

wood.jpg

Wood;

axe.jpg

Axes — Brute Strength or Fighting Capabilities. Not clear yet what the proper word would be if those remain in the game;

food.jpg

Food — Depicted by my poor attempt at drawing a bowl of soup. A.K.A. "Soups" or "Ducklings", the latter due to my botched steam coming up from the hot soup. I agree the whole thing resembles a duck rather than what I tried to draw;

population.jpg

Population — sometimes you just need numbers. Of...workers or people to put as bait in front of a beast.

sailing.jpg

Sailing — we just can't cross an ocean without it.

The Resources in Revision IX:

shall be...

Folks (same as population before)

and

Resolve (those axes we were looking for a better word for)

That should be it.

Farms that provided food before shall now provide more Folks, Homesteads shall become redundant and shall disappear. As well as Lumber Sites.

Costs of cards shall now be redesigned, and so shall be their abilities in most cases. Less resource oriented. More fun oriented.

For instance, trolls shall not cost you Population, Axes, and Soups...I mean...Food...
Just more Folks and Resolve now. More than the previous total.

Well, I shall be getting to it.

Meanwhile...

Here's what we've got digitalized on NFTshowroom already:

Valkyrie by @silver.art;

Raven Herald by @silver.art;

Polar Hunterby @silver.art;

Frozen Mammoth by @silver.art;

Temptress by @silver.art;

Jormungandr, The Sea Dragon by @silver.art;

Dragon of the Woods by @silver.art;

Quiet Inlet by @manoldonchev;

Frost Giant Outlook by @manoldonchev.

And there's the #westernshores tag to bind them in a single collection.

Someday these shall help a game be born, see if they don't!

Thank you for being with us!

Yours,

Manol
