El videojuego mantiene la escancia del original, solo con algunas mejoras, como la inclusión de criaturas que podremos dominar y cabalgar, otorgándonos un seguro de vida, algo que hace aún más completa la experiencia de juego, recordándonos a Super Mario 3 y el Yoshi sobre el que solíamos cabalgar.

La idea principal del videojuego es explorar zonas en las que habrá que tener mucho cuidado, pues nos estarán esperando miles de trampas ocultas que acabaran con nosotros, y de una manera inminente nos enviará al inicio de la partida nuevamente, por lo que la exploración tendrá que ser cuidadosa, verificando que no exista algún peligro para poder continuar, la idea es explorar, recolectar la mayor cantidad de oro y encontrar la salida de la zona, antes de llegar al límite de tiempo, que será de tres minutos.
Spelunky 2 es un formato de videojuego de plataforma en 2D plagados de aventuras, las muertes y reintentos estarán a la orden, por lo que será un aspecto casual al que deberemos acostumbrarnos, pues las trampas y monstruos serán el banquete principal de Spelunky 2, de forma que la paciencia será una virtud, no por nada este videojuego es catalogado como uno de los más complicados que existen.
Lo interesante de Spelunky 2, es que podremos crear en nuestra mente un patrón, o al menos algo parecido sobre los peligros que nos rodean, pues luego de un buen rato jugando, tendremos más claros los escenarios a los que nos estaremos enfrentando.
Es importante ir recolectando una serie de equipos que encontraremos dentro de cada zona, o bien comprarlas en algunas partes de dichas zonas, esto será primordial, pues resulta muy útil contar con una serie de elementos o herramientas que nos permitirán superar desafíos de una forma menos difícil, pues a medida que vayamos avanzando entre zonas, el nivel de complicación irá en aumento, y es aquí en donde entra la importancia de la recolección de oro para poder equiparnos lo mejor posible.
Algo realmente Bueno, es que la exploración tiene una muy buena forma de compensarnos, una es juntando oro, otra encontrar armas o equipos de exploración, y otra más es encontrando mascotas, las cuales debemos llevar a la salida de la zona y por las que se nos otorgará una vida, pero lo complicado es que todo lo deberemos hacer bajo el límite de tiempo, en el que deberemos rápidamente encontrar la salida de la zona.
A parte de la exploración y superar niveles, también contaremos con un modo multijugador de hasta cuatro personas, en donde el objetivo será luchar unos con otros, haciendo uso de nuestras habilidades hasta que solo quede uno con vida, a su vez el modo exploratorio se puede disfrutar en multijugador con otro amigo más, bien sea de forma online o en cooperativo, aunque de momento el multijugador online no está siendo correctamente adaptado, pues habrá mucho lag, algo que afortunadamente tiene solución con algún DLC, caso contrario ocurre con el modo cooperativo. Finalmente contaremos con unos retos que serán presentados de forma diaria, con el objetivo de superar niveles especiales, que la verdad resultar un reto mucho mayor que a los de los propios niveles del juego.
En síntesis, es un juego bastante completo, bien ambientado en lo musical y en lo gráfico, sin alejarse mucho del videojuego original, esta sin duda es una experiencia que vale la pena, y que nos traerá muchos recuerdos de nuestros inicios gamers con los juegos de plataforma que siempre nos han resultado tan épicos.
