Since today is Fathers Day i thought why not remember some of the best father or father-figures in modern video games. So here is my list in order of my preference.
6.Corvo- Dishonored
Corvo is one of the main protagonist for the Dishonored series. Once the royal protector for Empress Kaldwin, Corvo is then framed for her assassination and thus beginns his journey as the one of the most badass characters in video games. In Dishonored 2 we get to know that he is now serving her daughter but things don't go as planned and once again he sets out to prove his innocence and rescue his daughter from the clutches of his enemies. Along the way we come to understand her relationship with her daughter.
5.Booker Dewit- Bioshock Infinite
The protagonist and main playable character of Bioshock Infinite voiced by none other than Troy Baker. His story begins when he takes a deal to retreive this girl Elizabeth in order to erase his past deeds. But little does he know that this journey will take him to the deepest ends of his personal life and he will form such an intense relationship with Elizabeth. He is shown as a intense man with serious guilts and regrets of his wrongdoings and initially wary of strangers but he begins to becoming protective of Elizabeth due to her nature and as the story progress they form a very strong father-daughter bond,
4.Geralt- The Witcher 3
We all know who this guy is. He belongs to magically altered characters known as Witchers in The Witchers series. They undergo strong and incredibly tough transformation during their childhood to become what they are now and rarely they as a child survive this transformation. In Witcher-3 we see how Geralt and Ciri are close and care for each other so as that Geralt even goes over a long unforgiving journey to find Ciri to save her from whatever she is running from. Witchers due to their transformation are sterile and due to this Geralt is not Ciri's biological father but their bond is just as strong. Geralt receives Ciri as a form of payment when he invokes the law of surprise to receive his payment. Although first Geralt opposes this payment but later accepts Ciri and they both start training together and forms this strong bond.
3.Lee- Telltale's The Walking Dead
Probably one of the most sad and touching stories ever told in video games. Lee was a professor before the outbreak who was going to prison for killing a senator who was sleeping with his wife. So thankfully for him (i guess) the outbreak happened. Though everything went to shit but at least he was free. On his journey he meets this girl Celemntine all alone in her house waiting for her parents. Lee convinces her to come along with her and they go on a journey to find her parents. Rest, this journey is for you to experience.
2.Joel- The Last of Us
Joel is one of the most popular video game character and the depending on how you see the story the main or supporting character of The Last of Us. Joel first meets with Ellie when he is tasked with smuggling the girl to another city to a group of soldiers called Fireflies. Though initially indifferent towards Ellie and seeing her just as a means to an end, Joel gradually becomes curious about her and then protective and ultimately by the end of the game goes on to do some very morally thought provoking even selfish things in order to save her. This journey is one to experience for yourself.
1.Kratos- God of War
Protagonist of the God Of War Series. Shown as a very angry completely fueled by anger and rage character who is by no means a positive character, hell bent on exacting revenge from the gods for tricking him into killing his own family, Kratos father side we get to see in the latest God Of War game where in he is shown as the aged more mature father of a young boy Atreus now residing in the Norse region. Although he still has a temperament but is now very controlled and goes on to long lengths to support and protect his son. One of the best moments in the game when he goes on to face the demons of his past to save his son from a disease. The best thing about the game is that as the story progresses Kratos learns to how to be a better father and that is very surprising of him considering the kind of character he was in old games. And it is at the end of the game you come to know that how much this journey meant for them and how the death of their mother made them strengthened their bond.
