There are very few people in our generation who didn't play the "Mustapha" game. The real name of the game is "Cadillacs and dinosaurs", but the children of the 90s in Bangladesh knew it as "Mustapha".
There were some small arcade booths in the game store where the game could be played once with one taka coin. There is no counting how many times I had been scolded by my father for running away from school and playing Mustapha games.
Cadillacs and Dinosaurs was released in 1993 by Capcom. Although it was very successful in Bangladesh and India, this game does not fall in the list of classic games of Capcom. That is why the game has not been released by any other medium except Arcade.
This is the story of the 26th century when the present world is almost destroyed by hideous people and pollution. And I don't know how Diansorus will come to the future, but it came in the game!
In these games, a team called Black Marketeers catches dinosaurs for their secret research. So, the dinosaurs started attacking the village and the common people in anger.
And four heroes planned and came with a mission to stop this secret research of Black Marketeers.
Black Marketeers used something to those dinosaurs, which is why their color is kind of yellow. If you give them some punches and kicks,
They will come out of hypnosis. When in a state of hypnosis, they can attack both the heroes and the enemies. Makes sense!
The main heroes or characters of the game were mechanic Jack Tenrec, diplomat and explorer Hannah Dundee, friend and engineer Mustapha Cairo, and mysterious Mess O'Bradovich.
Interestingly, although Mustapha Cairo is the most popular character in the games, his character in the comics was secondary. And Mess O'Bradovich wasn't in the comics, he was only brought in for the games.
And the less popular characters in the games were Jack Tenrec and Hannah Dundee, the hero and heroine of the comics. You can play by selecting any one of these four characters if you want. And three people can play together in Arcade. The fighting style of each character is different.
You will find lots of weapons like pistols to machineguns, shotguns, torches, grenades, TNT, bazookas, and even rocks to fight with the enemies, some of those also seen in the game Punisher. There are a total of 8 levels in these games. The first level is pretty short and easy. You would probably wonder - where the heck is the dinosaurs! Don't worry, you'll get those from the second level and things will become messier once you complete level 2.
In Stage 3 you'll get a chance to ride a Cadillac and smash enemies with that. Boss in level 3 comes in a bike, so you need a ride.
As players progress, the stage begins to look more like a typical factory stage. Here the team gets a call from Jeremy Corbyn which village is under attack by dinosaurs. Throughout this stage, there're plenty of dinosaurs and humans to take out. But if you progress further some bizarre lizard will come across. The boss's name on this stage is "Morgue". Pretty funny, right?
Then come a few stages with jungle and mines. I loved the rain and thunderstorm in this stage, that's so cool actually. Here you have to go to a vault of "the city in the sea" which is a ruin of the present new york city. Smashing barrels and going down on a lift while fighting made this level more intense.
The last stage is called The Lab which is in the underground. Your target is mainly to find the mad scientist behind all of these and eliminate him. Here you'll see lots of bosses back whom you killed before.
The bosses in this game vary from one level to the next and use a range of different tactics to permanently keep you on your toes!
In the game, you'll get two life for each coin. And you can eat dropped food on the floor to redeem your health.
Graphics of this game is very cool which is heavily inspired by the comics. The characters and enemies are beautifully animated. Besides graphics, the music is also dynamic and really suits the feel of the game. The songs for each level sounds appropriate and help you to draw you further into the arcade experience.
I really enjoyed the time I spent with Cadillacs and Dinosaurs. And it's a shame that the game didn't get the credit it deserves, simply for being left in the arcade! It's unable for many people to play Cadillacs and Dinosaurs in Arcade. But you can at least get some feel by playing it online.
