My favorite thing about Dave the Diver is how the game constantly changes and progresses. As long as you stay true to doing the quests that pop up you'll always have a sense of progress which in return makes the game never get boring. I try to do the main quests as often as I can, while at the same time doing my side quests. My main quest has now taken me to the Glacial Area, a new biome.
A somewhat tedious road
The road to reach the Glacial Area in Dave the Diver had a hint of slow tediousness to it. Luckily it's the only slow and tedious section of the game that I've experienced so far. Even a good game can't be good 100% of the time.
See, there is a story to Dave the Diver. We start out as a simple diver, whose main task is diving and collecting fish for the restaurant he manages. This all happens in the mysterious Blue Hole, a strange sea that changes every time you dive into it. This Blue Hole is ripe with mysteries and secrets, one of them being the ancient civilization known as the Sea People.
By following the main quests we eventually make contant with and befriend the Sea People. This gives us access to their village which acts as a sort of checkpoint between the rather normal seas up above and the rather strange seas down below. To unlock the strange seas down below we have to keep on doing a set of quests in the Sea People village. This is the tedious part. It's mostly fetch quests consisting of swimming back and forth between NPCs and talking to them.
Tedious start, exciting end
Luckily, it's mostly the early part of this questline that's boring. As we get closer to the end and start nearing the entry point of the Glacial Area things do pick up. We need to explore a place called the Glacial Passage which houses a bunch of simple, yet fun, puzzles ending with a rather unique boss fight for this game.
After this the game opens back up to the game I fell in love with. Now we're exploring new areas, catching new types of fish and unlocking new secrets. I've only done one run of the Glacial Area so far, and I've already encountered a Narwhal and and two new types of sharks that got close to destroying me. I need to dice back in with better weapons next time.
