my first online gaming experience Diablo II: Lord of Destruction

in Hive Gaming3 years ago

Hey there fellow communers, here i am once again! This time i'm going with the flow of the Hive Gaming Contest and going to talk about my first online gaming experience #MyFirstOnlineGame , it happened in a strange game that came in a creepy red and black box with a skull in a hood and strong creepy letters. I remembered looking at taht box for hours, analyzing each detail, and imagining what kinda of pact with the devil i was about to sign installing the game haha. Also wondered what would my parents think of a game like that, obviously i had to explain to them that it was only a harmless game and not anything satanic untitled.gif

This is the polemic box cover that was into my mind

Kinda creepy for a kid right?

The box had several items in it, manuals with all the classes, 3 cds, it was really nice. The game offered 5 classes of characters to play with, Paladin, Necromancer, Amazon, Sorcerer and Barbarian.

These classes were available in the original game

I played a all saga in single player mode as a Necromancer, this class had magic powers and could bring dead creatures to "life" to help fighting the enemies, i though that class was really fun, with the dark clothes and creepy looking. I talked with my friends in school about the game and some of them bought it too and we all got hooked in it. So we decided to play online together, and it was a whole new experience. With the original game i played as a Barbarian, if i remember well his name was Kraton of something

In the begging of the game it looked like this

We devoured the game, finished in the medium difficulty really fast, we were having so much fun exploring all the map, combining sets and items. We would play almost everyday after schooltime. We would finish lunch and already start calling eachother to turn on the computer, log into the game and play for many hours as possible, or until one of our moms got mad at us nerdy beings and made us leave the pc and do something "productive" as they would say, guess what mom, now i can play whenever i like! (or at least when i don't have work to do 🤣)
Some time later we all bought the Lord of Destruction expansion, the one that came with a devilish mage in the cover summoning the name os the game, this was another creepy and interesting box that had me admiring it for hours too.

Sick designs bro

It was really fun to start the game from the beggining in this new world we were so thrilled the game added some more chapters to the original game, new equipment and 2 new characters to play with, the druid and the assassin! In this expansion set i remembered playing as a Assassin class. Different from the Barbarian. it started a lot weaker but got a lot stronger when you got to higher levels. It required a lot of agility because the main skills were booby traps and equipments that stunned the targets, so you would escape from the attacks and hit them doing a lot of damage, because different from the barbarian, it was really fragile too. The game had several "Sets" combining the equipment and if you completed the set you got extra perks, so we all would play together trying to get the parts for our sets, everybody working as a unit and exchanging the items. I remembered (after a lot of effort and with the help of all of the team) finishing the Natalya Set in my Assassin character.
This was the full set

And it gave these extra stats when completed

This is a picture of the character with the full set on. It also gave a very cool effect of translucency, your character was like a ghost in the game, even tough it was an only visible stat, it didn't mean the enemies wouldn't see you but it was a really really cool feature in my opinion even more because i was a young teenager and was discovering online games so everything was so innovative for me, to play with an assassin with an invisible ninja cloath was dope.

We played this great game for that whole year, and then we met the Lanhouses and started playing more competitive games like Counter-strike and got addicted to those too haha.

Diablo 2 as a first online game is not bad at all. I honestly don't know anything about the online aspect of Diablo 2, but if there's one thing I know about Diablo, it's that their games are amazing. Excellent post, keep it up.

Thanks man, the online gaming was a little bit archaic, if i recall it well you could play on Battle.net which wasn't our case or you could create a party, then you had to send your ip address to your friends and they would type in an option to join the party. I remember we had a lot of issues setting it up, had the unlock ports on our modems, configure routers, etc., The difficulty of the game and the quantity of enemies in the map would rise or decline as players entered or left. It was hard work to set it all up but it was really worth it.

diablo was one of my first games also, but at that time i had no internet to play online. ended up completely lost in the game. i guess i took about 2 months to finish act 1. lol

It had a lot of secrets, special items, special comps, some enemies received more damage from differente type of attacks, it expained a little bit on the manual but we kinda learned it a little bit playing the game

Diablo was by far one of the best games i've played as a child, trully awesome. What's your take on the new Remake that just came out?

I guess the community asked for it a lot, it might be good for the nostalgic players, but i rather wait for Diablo 4 with more advanced mechanics.
