HIVE Challenge Day 1- DCrops Beginners Guide!!

in Hive Gaming3 months ago

One of my resolutions for 2025 is to write more regularly about crypto related content. Of course it comes after my 1st resolution of making sick gains this year but as always that is a bit beyond my control alone so let me focus for now on what I can control and that is writing regularly.
My plan is to write consecutively for as many days as possible. Whether I will hit 100, 200 or 500 I don’t know but today I will write the first post in the series.
For a change it will not be about my favourite game Splinterlands but about a new game that I started playing recently called DCrops which is the HIVE version of FarmVille.
In fact I plan to write regularly about DCrops as I could not find a lot of guides or blogs about how to play the game. For small doubts I had go to the Discord and ask around.
So this post will be on some basics I picked up while playing my first season of the game.
Another reason why I will only be talking only about the basics is that even I haven’t figured out the advanced strategies which I hope I uncover during the coming weeks.
Before we dive into the details like always keep in mind to DYOR before taking any decisions regarding this game.

What Should You Know Before Playing DCrops?
1. Gameplay- I already told you that the gameplay is similar to FarmVille so you will be basically growing crops, harvesting them and in the process earn some rewards. One key difference is that whatever points you earned on FarmVille could never be monetised but your rewards on FarmVille are monetised as it is a P2E (Play 2 Earn) model game running on HIVE blockchain.
One key advantage of a game running on HIVE is that there will not be any gas fee to be paid no matter how much you play in a day.

2. Entry Cost- The initial investment to start playing is purchasing a Starter Pack worth $5 which gives you a piece of land and 20 bags of random seeds so you can start farming.

3. Basic Conditions- Some of the basic game conditions you should be aware before you plant your first crop is that the game runs in seasons of 15 days (similar to Splinterlands, right?)
These seasons will rotate across the 4 seasons Spring, Summer, Autumn, Winter. Different seeds can be sown in different seasons so be careful which seeds you buy depending on which season is currently running.
Also each seed will have a different time before it becomes ready to harvest, just like FarmVille.

This is an important point to consider as if you sow a winter seed during winter season but by the time it matures the winter season gets finished and Spring starts then your crop will be wasted. This is a lesson I learnt the hard way so don’t repeat my mistake.
You might be tempted to buy a high number of land to grow your farming empire rapidly but I would recommend to start slow with the single starter pack land or maybe 1 or 2 more. Once you figure out if you like the game enough to continue playing long term should you decide if you want to invest more.
There is no point making a big investment and later getting bored out of it.

**What Next? **

Currently I do not have a clear view about what is the earning potential of the game and how soon can I expect to get my investment back or if that is even possible.
Hopefully by next season I will have more clarity and would write an advanced guide on the gameplay.
If you are a FarmVille fan and want to experience how playing that would feel on a blockchain then do try out DCrops- https://www.dcrops.com/?ref=sambtc

Cheers,
Sam
