Onimusha Warlords - My first steps into a demon-infested feudal Japan

in Hive Gaming2 months ago
Hey guys from Hive Gaming, I hope you are all doing great. Next year, a new installment of Onimusha is coming out. This was an action-adventure saga that I enjoyed a lot on the PS2, so to celebrate its return, I decided to replay the first game and share my progress with you in the form of a guide, gameplay, playthrough, or however you prefer to call it.

The awesome opening cutscene shows a bloody battle between the armies of two feudal lords, which ends with the death of one of them. However, some time later, Lord Nobunaga is resurrected thanks to a diabolic pact, and now he is accompanied by an army of demons that begins to spread chaos through the territories of his enemy. This is when a loyal samurai named Samanosuke, our protagonist, comes into action.

At the beginning, I simply advanced along the only possible path until I encountered a couple of demons who had taken Samanosuke's dear friend, Princess Yuki, as hostage. I fought against them until I see how they retreated. Suddenly, another larger and more powerful demon armed with a mace appeared and managed to knock out our hero and, to top it off, took the princess away. In the next scene, some mystical beings appeared and granted me powers to absorb the demons' souls.

I continued my journey by crossing a bridge and saw something terrible: several corpses were lying around. Then I hurried up and reached a place where another group of soldiers was barely fighting against several demons. I proceeded to eliminate all the enemies that were outside and then went inside to where the soldiers had taken refuge, but to my surprise, they panicked and locked me in when more demons appeared out of nowhere.

In the midst of the chaotic situation, I managed to defeat all the enemies, although they did manage to hurt me. Fortunately, one of the last demons I killed dropped a yellow soul that helped me recover my health. Then, the next scene shows Samanosuke reprimanding the soldiers, and they apologize for chickening out. They also mentioned that the keep might be under attack and pointed out the road to get there.

I advanced through a forest until I reached the entrance of what looked like a cave. This place seemed a bit unstable because part of the ceiling collapsed when I started to explore it. Additionally, it was filled with bats flying around that scared me for a moment. Fortunately, there were also some lit candles illuminating the path. If it weren't for that, I would probably have gotten lost in that place.

When I reached the end of the path, there were some stairs that led me to what looked like the entrance of a temple. At the top, I found an altar with a weird mummified old man from whom I took a scroll that tells part of the game's story. Suddenly, the altar moved aside and revealed a secret door.

Once on the other side, I saw a series of hallways with more lit candles and some beautiful decorations on the walls. In this place, more demons were also waiting for me, and I fought against them without mercy. In fact, when one of them fell to the floor, I plunged my katana into his chest to finish him off. This was really cool.

With the area now cleared, I passed through the next corridors and entered a room filled with many vases that had blue drawings on them. Additionally, I saw a mysterious glowing orb on top of a small altar.

This object turned out to be a thunder sword with which I can perform special attacks that consume part of my mana. It's worth mentioning that by absorbing a specific type of soul that demons occasionally drop after being killed, I can refill my magic power.

After that, in the last corridor on the left side of the temple, I came across a chest that required a combination to open. This puzzle was easy to solve, as I only had to arrange some numbers in a very limited amount of steps. Thus, I obtained a rope ladder.

Then, I managed to get out of that place by going up some stairs and ended up in a forest. I noticed that it was already nighttime, and everything was eerily quiet. As I advanced a bit more through the surroundings, I saw the entrance gate of the keep, but it was blocked by a blue magical crystal. At first, I thought I had left the key or some important object behind, but within a few minutes, I discovered that I simply had to equip the thunder sword to unlock the crystal that was sealing the door.

Once on the other side, I observed a group of new types of demons with red spikes on their backs and armed with heavy swords. These enemies occasionally performed a rolling attack on the ground that could leave me stunned for a few seconds if I didn't block it in time, so I had to be very attentive to their moves to get rid of them.

After that battle ended, I found a healing item inside a chest. It was a green herb just like the ones seen in Resident Evil games. I find this detail interesting since Onimusha was also created by Capcom.

It looks pretty funny. Good post

Yes, it's very good. It resembles the early Resident Evil games due to the fixed cameras and puzzles. Best regards, bethyjade.

The difference between PS2 and PS4 or even PS5 graphics are pretty intense. I never played this one because despite it being the most popular system of all time, the PS2 days were a time in my life when I was the least interested in gaming in my entire life.

Yes, graphics have changed a lot since the PS2 era. In my case, it's a bit different; during the PS2 era, I used to play many games, but now I don't play as much as I used to, even though I still find video games fascinating.
