Surely you've played some game in your childhood that you loved, either from Nintendo, Sony or Microsoft, some saga that is quite fun, has good mechanics and everything points to have several sequels, so that after a couple of years we have... nothing.
It's more common than we think, making video games after all is a practice that has become more expensive with the passing of the years and the improvement of technology, the big studios have not stood idly by and have had to cut some ideas that even if they had good economic foundations have not performed as expected.
there seems to be hope with the recent remasters/remakes that several companies have managed to do, with good receptions from gamers, in this post we will talk about some of those sagas that are still waiting for a new release and that surely deserve much more love.
This is just a personal list based on my experiences playing some of these games so forgive me if I don't remember some important franchises, I also have to note that here we are talking about remakes, which would be the complete development of a game released some time ago with new graphics and gameplay, often wanting to keep the essence of the base game but implementing substantial changes to these two.
An example of remake could be a recently released game, Resident Evil 4 is a remake made based on the original game released some time ago, changing both the graphics to improve them and some of the gameplay to make it more fluid, now that we have an idea of what I'm looking for let's see which sagas deserve a new game.
F-Zero
We start with a series of games that we haven't seen for several decades, Nintendo has always been known for limiting its resources to areas where it knows it will find profit, it rarely dares to make a risky game and that's precisely how I see F-Zero.
First it's a genre in which Nintendo has experience but not too much, Mario Karts can work perfect as a base for a F-Zero game but the question is always how to differentiate them, Nintendo has always been known for innovating and I see complicated to make a racing game with some resource that hasn't already been done.
Still I can't deny that this and Star Fox are some of my favourite sagas that have been missing for some time now.
Prince Of Persia
Another of those sagas that had a huge success in its time and now seems to have evolved into other games is Prince Of Persia which was the pioneer of some of the mechanics used in Assassin's Creed, parkour in video games had its first contact in this saga and since its last installment in 2010.
These games were much more aligned with platform games, you had to jump, evade stage traps and fight against enemies although the last game had the peculiarity that you had to complete all levels within a time limit, otherwise the game was over. It would be nice to see some of the games compiled in remake form.
Chrono Trigger
Another saga that has evolved into other games that are considered its spiritual successors, but I've always been excited to see what a modern version of one of the most important J-RPGs of its decade would be like, why not, with what we're seeing with Final Fantasy and that mix between action and rpg I think a remake of these games would be pretty cool.
Silent Hill
This one comes with a bit of a catch, because apparently it has already been announced that a remake or at least a new game of the series is coming, although I take this news with caution as we already saw in the past a demo like PT on Playstation that also looked very good and ended up cancelled.
Still with the wave of horror games being released I think it's only fair to give a new try to one of the pioneers of the genre that I still remember I'm a little scared to play again even those pixelated installments of the original Playstation.
Dino Crisis
After 3 medium-successful games, Capcom, which is an expert at resisting bringing back games from its best franchises, has put Dino Crisis in something of a coma for several years. The series of survival horror games focused on taking on a squadron of dinosaurs in a military facility was one of the high points of the first Playstation's jump to 3D.
I think today there's a better chance that we'll see at least a reiteration of the early games with Resident Evil and its remakes being so successful, there's a perfect mould for a series like Dino Crisis to have a new chance with gamers.
Half-Life
A bit of a cliché to end this list with this series, especially since we've seen some installments in the form of Alyx, but I'm talking about finishing the main story, the one that hasn't been picked up since 2008 and we have no idea how it's progressing.
We know how Valve is, always looking to innovate in a radical way and with all that has advanced the modern shooter and with all the competitors is a little difficult to see that new installment, although I see plausible a remake of the first two games with improved graphics and gameplay, even more now that they are announcing projects like Counter-Strike 2.
All yours, @slashint - Gamer, Video Game Analyst.
There's a lot of these that are remakes.
There's a new version of Chrono Cross on Switch / PC ? I think that takes it 3D town.
I believe there were some remakes for the Silent Hill games on PSP and PS3, too.
I didn't know about this! I'm definitely going to look into it
There's too much (and so much) stuff in my pile of unplayed games that I fear I'll never get through them all :D
As far as I know, there are a lot of sequels and remakes of things like Prince of Persia and Silent Hill. But yes, there are also forgotten ones like Half Life. People have been waiting for this game for years and there's not even any news.
I think I meant something more modern, similar to what you see with Resident Evil and the new games Capcom is putting out, it would be nice if they re made the games with that idea
Surprisingly I only know less than half of these games you listed. Silent Hill was good! I hope they’ll do well in the remake. 🤞
Half life.. ah, I’ve not heard this game for a long time. It was such a popular game back then but not anymore now.
I’d love to see these games in mobile too! I just don’t know if it’s going to be a good one.
Prince of Persia has a remake in works I think but I dunno what happened with that, Ubisoft is not at its peak right now, there is a Silent Hill remake that will release soon probably this year. I´d like to see a Xenogears remake someday, I doubt something that will happen tho
It would be nice to see one but I think AC is taking up most of Ubisoft's resources right now, plus they're not having a good run
Chrono Trigger was badass I didn't even know about it until long after it was made.
Beat it on an SNES emulator once or twice.
Super cool game.
That's right! I remember playing it once with a friend and I couldn't get the character designs out of my head!
Chrono Trigger!!! One of my favorite games of all time!
