Mysteries, urban legends and secrets in video games have always been an element that keeps many gaming communities interested, to know beyond what the game wants to show us and discover everything that the developers hid, or find out if something is real or not, is something that somehow or another captures your attention, we all remember the hidden heart in the statue of GTA IV or the legend of Herobrine in Minecraft, but today I will talk about a case that kept me thinking if it was real or not for years, a case that even Rockstar had to intervene and say that nothing of what was talked about was real, today I will talk about the legend of Bigfoot in GTA San Andreas.
Los misterios, leyendas urbanas y secretos en los videojuegos siempre han sido un elemento que mantiene interesado a muchas comunidades gamers, conocer más allá de lo que el juego nos quiere mostrar y descubrir todo lo que ocultaron los desarrolladores, o descubrir si algo es real o no, es algo que de alguna manera u otra capta tu atención, todos recordamos el corazón oculto en la estatua de GTA IV o la leyenda de Herobrine en Minecraft, pero hoy hablaré de un caso que me mantuvo pensando en si era real o no por años, un caso que incluso Rockstar tuvo que intervenir y decir que nada de lo que se hablaba era real, hoy hablaré de la leyenda de Bigfoot en GTA San Andreas.
It is not known exactly where this legend originated, but it was around 2005-2007, it is said that it all started with an edited internet image showing a hairy humanoid-shaped beast, and it is also said that it originated from a video game forum where someone claimed to have seen what is presumed to be the Bigfoot, whatever the origin, this gave birth to one of the greatest legends of video games, that even though San Andreas is not a horror game, all of us who played it and explored Back or Beyond knowing the legend felt terrified.
No se sabe exactamente donde se originó esta leyenda, pero fue alrededor del 2005-2007, se dice que todo comenzó con una imagen editada de internet donde se mostraba a una bestia peluda de forma humanoide, y también se dice que se originó a partir de un foro de videojuegos donde alguien alegaba haber visto a lo que se presume que era el Bigfoot, sea cual sea el origen, esto dio a luz a una de las leyendas más grandes de los videojuegos, que a pesar de que San Andreas no es un juego de terror, todos los que lo jugamos y exploramos Back o Beyond conociendo la leyenda nos sentíamos aterrorizados.
La leyenda tuvo un gran impacto en el mundo de los videojuegos que hasta el mismo CEO de Rockstar tuvo que decir que no existía ningún Bigfoot como tampoco existe en la vida real, mientras el CEO decía esto, en los créditos de juegos como Vice City o el mismo San Andreas, se menciona a un "Bigfoot", no sabemos si es un desarrollador que forma parte del equipo o una simple referencia al mito, esto no hizo que el interés de descubrir de una vez por todas la existencia de ese tal Bigfoot desapareciera.

For a very long time the search for the truth was on, some players explored the game files to discover something that would give them some indication of the existence of Bigfoot but the closest they found were some files called "monkeyman", which was just a statue of a monkey from a race track, one of the supposed clues were the supposed footprints that were around that area where it was believed to be, in Back or Beyond, even when you see that place from the map, the shape it has looks a bit like a foot.

Después de muchísimos años de investigación, los jugadores se dieron cuenta de que tal Bigfoot no existía y solo era una leyenda urbana, pero la comunidad de jugadores no quería quedarse con la gran pregunta ¿Qué tal si en realidad existiese un Bigfoot? y fue acá cuando gracias a los mods pudimos enfrentarnos contra la leyenda en persona, mods que agregaban misiones en las cuales tenías que dar caza al Bigfoot, el cuál tenías que buscar por todo Back o Beyond.
After many years of research, players realized that such Bigfoot did not exist and was just an urban legend, but the gaming community did not want to be left with the big question: What if there really was a Bigfoot? and it was here when thanks to mods we could face the legend in person, mods that added missions in which you had to hunt the Bigfoot, which you had to look for all over Back or Beyond.
San Andreas no solo es reconocido por ser uno de los mejores de la historia, sino también por todas las leyendas y anécdotas que lo rodean, si buscamos en YouTube videos acerca del Bigfoot en San Andreas puedes encontrar videos antiguos como del 2008, videos con la mítica canción de 009 Sound System y la marca de agua de Fraps, y ya no solo del Bigfoot, videos sobre el fantasma de la mamá de CJ y hasta de Aliens.
San Andreas is not only recognized for being one of the best in history, but also for all the legends and anecdotes that surround it, if we search on YouTube videos about the Bigfoot in San Andreas you can find old videos like 2008, videos with the mythical 009 Sound System song and the Fraps watermark, and not only the Bigfoot, videos about the ghost of CJ's mother and even Aliens.
Cuando estaba pequeño varias veces me metía a Back o Beyond de noche para ver si encontraba algo acerca de Bigfoot, obviamente nunca encontraba nada, pero más que todo porque siempre me terminaba saliendo del juego, no lograba durar más de 10 minutos en Back o Beyond de noche porque me daba mucho miedo, sí, es estúpido porque no es un juego de terror o algo parecido, pero me aterraba la idea, me aterraba el suspenso de todo ese tema, y estoy muy seguro que no fui el unico, y algo que le sumaba más el factor miedo a ese lugar era el coche fantasma que siempre aparecía cuando llegabas a una parte de Back o Beyond, un coche que bajaba la colina y estaba destrozado, pero no había nadie conduciéndolo y cuando lo tratabas de reparar en un Pay n Spray, no se arreglaba.
When I was a kid several times I went into Back or Beyond at night to see if I could find something about Bigfoot, obviously I never found anything, but mostly because I always ended up leaving the game, I couldn't last more than 10 minutes in Back or Beyond at night because it was too scary, yes, it's stupid because it's not a horror game or something like that, but I was terrified of the idea, I was terrified of the suspense of the whole thing, and I'm pretty sure I wasn't the only one, and something that added to the fear factor of that place was the ghost car that always appeared when you got to a part of Back or Beyond, a car that came down the hill and was wrecked, but there was no one driving it and when you tried to repair it in a Pay n Spray, it wouldn't fix it.
Tal impacto tuvo esta leyenda urbana que hasta Rockstar decidió hacerle referencia en otros juegos como en Red Dead Redemption, donde puedes darle caza en una misión del DLC Undead Nightmare, y también en GTA V, en GTA V nos damos cuenta de que todo es una farsa, solo es un sujeto disfrazado del supuesto Bigfoot, esto es lo más cercano que tenemos de enfrentarnos a la leyenda en persona en un GTA.

Wow I totally forgot about this. My friends and I would go looking for him for ours on end until we finally realized it wasn't real. In the end I installed the mod and ended up blowing my friends minds lol.

mano xdios quien se creía lo del bigfoot JAJSDJADA. A mí lo único así que me daba miedo del San Andreas y que sí era real, era lo del auto que se manejaba solo en el bosque, eso estaba cursed

Hombre, Big foot en GTA es una pieza histórica en el mundo del gaming haha, aunque es fácil descartarlo hoy y ver qué todos eran rumores tontos, en su momento era muy fácil tomarlo en serio, recuerdo los cientos de videos en YouTube usando loquendo y las publicaciones en Taringa que discutían el tema a profundidad, aunque fuese falso muchos invertimos momentos divertidos investigando.
Si amigo, hoy en día es fácil descubrir si algo como eso es real o no, pero para entonces era más difícil, pero aún cuando se descubrió que era falso, se le tomo mucho cariño al misterio.
