I admit it, I've been missing and not wanting to make posts because of a visual novel, I knew I didn't have to play it, it always happens to me the same when I finish one, I end up with a deep emptiness inside my poor heart, it's very easy to be fond of the characters when you have many hours reading thousands of lines of text to be able to move forward, when you get to the end you just face the undeniable fear (a terrifying truth) of never knowing anything more about those characters but you just have to accept it and move forward once again, it won't be the first or the last time this happens to me, so sooner or later I'll have to get used to it, learn to manage my emotions, you know, although that's another topic. The visual novel itself is called Once In A Lifetime and I discovered it in a FB post where in the comments they recommended it, the truth is I came for the story and I was enchanted indeed by the story, the good scenes for older adults was just a plus. I've never reviewed a visual novel before where everything is pure text but let's see how it all turns out, without further ado, let's get started.
Lo admito, he estado desaparecido y sin ganas de hacer posts por culpa de una novela visual, sabía que no tenía que jugarla, siempre me pasa lo mismo cuando finalizo alguna, termino con un profundo vacío dentro de mi pobre corazón, es muy fácil guardarle cariño a los personajes cuando tienes muchas horas leyendo miles de líneas de texto para poder avanzar, cuando llegas al final solo te enfrentas al innegable temor (una terrorífica verdad) de no saber más nunca algo sobre aquéllos personajes pero solo queda aceptarlo y seguir hacia delante una vez más, no será ni la primera ni última vez que esto me suceda, así que tarde o temprano tendré que irme acostumbrando, aprender a manejar mis emociones, ya sabes, aunque eso es otro tema. La novela visual en sí se llama Once In A Lifetime y la descubrí en un post de FB donde en los comentarios la recomendaban, la verdad vine por la historia y quedé encantado en efecto por la historia, lo de las buenas escenas para adultos mayorcitos solo fue un plus. Nunca antes había hecho una reseña de una novela visual donde todo es puro texto pero veamos cómo sale todo esto, sin más dilación, comencemos.

The game tells us the story of our protagonist, which obviously has no name because otherwise I would have already mentioned it, when he has always had a very hard life since childhood, his mother was responsible for taking care of him and when she dies is under the tutelage of his father, which only cares about having good grades in school, causing our protagonist does not know what to do with his life, has no specific goal or know what to do, causing concern about their future. His life will change course when his father remarries another woman with two daughters, making their family life much happier because of these three women. What is a real mystery is the reason for this marriage, although it is suspected that it is for money (although in the end this question is not very important, the lady really does love our protagonist). Our character's father is never at home and has never been seen to work, he just spends his time locked in his cellar, which everyone is forbidden to go near. Sooner or later this little fact will lead to a plot of mystery and perhaps action where we will have to dismantle a satanic sect, which wants to get the power of a book to take over the world, only we will be able to stop them.
El juego nos narra la historia de nuestro protagonista, el cual evidentemente no tiene nombre porque sino ya lo hubiera mencionado, el cuando siempre ha tenido una vida muy dura desde pequeño, su mamá era la encargada de cuidarle y cuando ésta muere queda bajo la tutela de su padre, el cual solo le importa que tenga buenas notas en la escuela, provocando que el nuestro protagonista no sepa qué hacer con su vida, no tiene ningún objetivo en concreto ni sabe a qué dedicarse, causándole preocupación acerca de su futuro. Su vida cambiará de rumbo cuando su padre se vuelva a casar con otra mujer con dos hijas, haciendo que su convivencia familiar sea mucho más alegre debido a estas tres mujeres, lo que es un verdadero misterio es el por qué de este casamiento, aunque se sospecha que es por dinero (aunque al final esta pregunta no tiene mucha importancia, la señora en realidad sí quiere a nuestro protagonista). El padre de nuestro personaje nunca se encuentra en casa ni nunca se le ha visto trabajar, solo se la pasa encerrado en su sótano, en el cual todos tienen prohibido acercarse. Tarde o temprano este pequeño hecho desembocará en una trama de misterio y quizás acción donde tendremos que desmantelar una secta satánica, la cual quiere obtener el poder de un libro para apropiarse del mundo, solo nosotros seremos capaces de detenerlos.

The truth is that in terms of the difficulty to get the routes of each character, it is quite simple, it is not very difficult to say (there are some that even do themselves by default). You can easily get the best possible ending on the first try, the ones that really have a bit of difficulty level are the routes of the stepmother and the teacher, but surely in the second replay you will know what to do. In terms of decisions, it's pretty obvious what to choose so that our character always benefits, so much so that the game is almost a linear story with few variations. A quite interesting section is the puzzles, that although they are few, they achieve their goal of making you think at least for a moment, there are some that are even complicated, where I had to look for a guide to be able to solve the puzzle. The other mechanisms are the same as always, where for example we can save the game anywhere we want, as well as having thousands of save slots to have one for each decision we make, obviously. What may be seen as "new" here is a mere point system, which will tell us depending on our choices, if we are doing well with the girls in question.
La verdad que en cuanto a la dificultad para sacar las rutas de cada personaje, es bastante sencillo, no es muy difícil que digamos (hay algunas que hasta se hacen solas por defecto). Fácilmente puedes sacarte el mejor final posible al primer intento, las que de verdad tienen un poco de nivel de dificultad son las rutas de la madrastra y la de la profesora, pero de seguro ya en la segunda rejugada sabrás qué hacer. En cuanto a las decisiones, es bastante obvio sobre qué elegir para que nuestro personaje salga beneficiado siempre, tanto que el juego es casi una historia lineal con pocas variaciones. Un apartado bastante interesante es la parte de los puzzles, que aunque son pocos, logran su objetivo de ponerte a pensar aunque sea un momento, habiendo algunos con que son hasta complicados, donde tuve que buscar una guía para poder resolver dicho puzzle. Los demás mecanismos son los de siempre, donde por ejemplo podemos guardar la partida en cualquier parte que querramos, además de poseer miles de slots de guardado para tener uno para cada decisión que tomemos obviamente. Lo que acá se podrá ver como algo "nuevo" es un mero sistema de puntos, que nos dirá dependiendo de nuestras elecciones, si lo estamos haciendo bien con las chicas en cuestión.

It's quite interesting that a product like this has an interesting plot, but I think it's simply because it never tries to take itself 100% seriously, it has its moments of comedy and its moments of seriousness when they are totally necessary, nothing feels out of place, everything fits together perfectly. I have to say, I've never found dialogue so funny before, and I'm a person who finds almost nothing funny, especially when it comes to audiovisual media, but simply characters like the prisoner you decide whether to get out of prison or not, is one of the best there is. Maybe I was just lucky and the author has the same sense of humour as me, but the absurd humour that surrounds the play is quite funny. And while we're being honest at this very moment, I find it amazing that a NSFW novel is able to build up its characters enough for you to empathise with them, creating a bond, however minimal, that can bring tears to your eyes if tragedy strikes. At the end of the day, I can say that it's a pretty interesting video game on a narrative level but it doesn't end up being anything more impressive or relevant due to being a NSFW title, even on the official itch.io website they emphasize that more than anything else. I easily recommend it to anyone who can stomach this kind of explicit content in exchange for enjoying an interesting narrative, plus the ending is one of the cutest things you'll ever see (?).
Es bastante interesante el hecho de que un producto como este tenga una trama interesante, pero creo que es simplemente porque nunca trata de tomarse al 100% en serio, tiene sus momentos de comedia y sus momentos de seriedad cuando son totalmente necesarios, no se siente nada fuera de lugar, todo encaja a la perfección. Tengo que decirlo, nunca antes unos diálogos me habían parecido tan divertidos y eso siendo yo una persona que casi nada le causa gracia, más cuando se trata de medios audiovisuales pero sencillamente personajes como el preso que decides si sacar de prisión o no, es de lo mejor que hay. Quizás solo haya tenido suerte y el autor tenga el mismo sentido del humor que yo, pero es bastante divertido todo el humor absurdo que envuelve la obra. Y ya que estamos siendo sinceros en este justo instante, me parece increíble que una novela NSFW sea capaz de construir sus personajes lo suficiente para que empatices con ellos, creando un lazo aunque sea mínimo, que te puede hacer llorar si ocurre alguna tragedia. Al final de cuentas, puedo decir que es un videojuego bastante interesante a nivel narrativo pero no termina siendo algo más impresionante o relevante debido a ser un título NSFW, hasta en la página oficial de itch.io le hacen más énfasis a eso que a otra cosa. Fácilmente lo recomiendo a cualquiera que pueda soportar este tipo de contenido explícito a cambio de disfrutar una narrativa interesante, además de que el final es una de las cosas más bonitas que verás jamás (?.
Creo que sin duda es una de las tramas más locas y con giros que he escuchado, sin embargo por alguna razón logra sonar interesante el hecho de las sectas satánicas y el tema del libro y el apoderarse del mundo. Pinta bastante interesante en sí, sé como se siente ese vacío luego de terminar algo que te tiene bastante enganchado y quedar a la expectativa de muchas cosas, si en algún momento volverán con una segunda parte o si arruinarán la trama con eso, es duro hermano. Sin embargo, me alegra que lo disfrutaras, es también valido y poco usual ver este estilo de juegos y es bueno dejar de lado el tabú y darles también una oportunidad de ser vistos. Por eso quise hacerle una reseña a este juego, está bastante entretenido, quizás alguien después se anima y se lo juega. Es sumamente inesperado para mí que un título NSFW pueda provocar eso que mencionaste.

Yes, the visuals are quite strange and you might have to play it to see what it's really about, but if you can handle waves of text and nsfw content, I recommend it.

Eso me llamo mucho la atencion, ciertamente este tipo de juegos tiene bastante atractico y realmente me sorprende lo mucho que pueden hacer con algo tan simple como estos juegos.
