Tokyo Debunker --- a Mobile RPG Clouded with Mystery and Cats!

in Hive Gamingyesterday (edited)

It's been ages since I shared a gaming-related post. I usually game using my mobile phone, but my phone battery has been very weak for a long time now. hahah

However, I got myself a tablet recently for drawing and other Hive-related stuff, and I could play some games again.

A couple of days ago, I downloaded an RPG game that caught my attention. It's called Tokyo Debunker.

NOTE: All photoss are screenshot from the game...

I have only played this game for a couple of days, so I'll tell you about what I think so far. It's been fun and interesting, though... I love the art style, and the storyline is so engaging despite being in the first few chapters or volumes. There are also a lot of intriguing characters. And oh, there are some references from Harry Potter as well.

When you open the game for the first time, you'll have to go through a tutorial first, and it's so interesting because your guide is an adorable cat. And the tutorial itself is already very interactive, and the story is gripping, so you'd want to continue.

After a few chapters, you'll complete the tutorial, and you'll be able to see this homepage. Of course, some areas are locked, but as you progress, they'll be available for use.

Allow me to help you go through the different areas or features of this game by visiting each tab individually.

CAMPUS

As part of the game, you're going to build your own campus. This is where you can generate coins and other materials, which would help you train your characters and progress your story further.

As you can see, there are three small boxes with cute cats that say Galaxy Express, Arena, and Camp.

Galaxy Express

This is the part where you solve cases by battling monsters, which are called "anomalies" in the story.

)

Here, your characters and team can take turns battling a single anomaly.

Solving these cases would also allow you to earn rewards to train your characters further, as well as open more stories for you to read and enjoy.

To be honest, I usually press skip for this one, but the character's chibi versions are also pretty cute, aren't they?

On the same page, you'd also see three other options: Rankings, Investigate, and Bonus. Rankings are obviously just the list of top players, and Investigate is an option that allows you to earn more items. There's nothing much to do; it's like replaying the case and earning the same items you received on that level, and you can do it three times.

)

As for the Bonus option, you can revisit the bonus stages you've unlocked from the main Cases. It's a musical tap mini-game with a cute cat. So, if you're into rhythm games, you'd enjoy this part, too.

Arena

Next one on the "Campus" is Arena. This is where you can challenge other players. Their characters will have to battle with yours, and you can climb up the ranking. You won't lose anything, though. Win or lose, you can get some items... however, wouldn't it be great to climb up the rankings? The challenges are limited per day, though. (I'm sorry I forgot how many times you'd get to do it, probably 5 times).

CAMP

)
)

This option allows you to earn more EXP and other things needed for you to level up both your account and your characters. You can either use the tickets you earn from solving the cases or other mini-games, or you can use diamonds.

CHARACTERS

The next tab is the "Characters Tab". I've been mentioning characters previously... and yeah, this game is card-based.

During the tutorial, you'd get to choose a character you like, and they'd provide you with an SR card. After that, you'll get a free spin to get other characters to form a team.

Training

I chose the character "Lyca Colt" based on instinct? hahaha I think he has a mysterious vibe, and he looks quite aloof. There was a short description for each character before you could choose them, and I believe this guy here is a werewolf. XD Well, most of the characters are ghouls and/or fantasy creatures.

Anyway, the photo above is the training page. This is where you equip items and level up your cards.

Team Management

Then, next to the training option is the team option. This is where you'll manage your team. I just started playing seriously yesterday, so I haven't gotten a lot of cards yet. But I've been trying to level them up.

HOME

The Home tab is where the main game happens. There are small icons, but they're mostly prizes, rankings, daily quests, shops, messages, and other minor stuff. Let me share about the two main boxes, instead.

Summon

Summon is obviously where you can get your cards. You can purchase them with diamonds or special tickets. I haven't come across the special tickets yet since it's just my second day playing today, but as for the diamonds, you can either earn them by playing the mini-games or completing episodes of the stories.

I'm not one to purchase stuff for games that much (except when there's something I really want), so I'll be using my earned diamonds for this. This is also the reason why I haven't gotten more cards yet. hahaha I'm saving diamonds to get a guaranteed SSR or SR one. :)

Story

Upon clicking the Story box, you'll get to this page. There are two options, one is Text with the Ghouls and the Main Story.

I haven't unlocked the former since you'd have to increase your affinity with the characters first before you could chat with them, and as I've said, I barely started playing. I can't wait to open it and unlock side stories, though. :)

Main Story

As for the main story, I finished the Prologue part which has 33 chapters.

I'm still in the middle of the second chapter for Episode 1, though.

)

The story has two styles. One is a special manga type. It's mostly for just 1/3 of each chapter. The rest would be an interactive type. However, what I like about this is that every line has an audio!

You can hear the characters speaking, which is a remarkable thing! In some of the otome or similar RPG games I've played in the past, you can only hear a bit of the character's lines. However, for this one, it's like reading a manga while listening to an audiobook at the same time.

And one of the ghoul students sounded like Zenitsu (Kimetsu no Yaiba), and one of the teachers sounded like Gojo-sensei (Jujutsu Kaisen). I guess these characters were based on them as well. It's so fun!

GUILD

)
)

The next tab is Guild. I haven't really explored this one, yet... and the guild I belong to isn't that active yet. Most of the active guilds are full, so I didn't have any choice. I've been able to go fishing, take photos here, and collect some guild prizes. However, I haven't tried Game of Claws and Nightmare Raid. I believe it's something you'd have to do with other guild members to earn special items.

CHAT

The final tab is Chat. It's where you can exchange messages with other players, be it in the same world, same guild, or private messages with friends you've connected with. I haven't unlocked the Cross-world option yet, though.

QUICK UPDATE:

In the middle of creating this post, I checked my game and found out I've unlocked the Character Stories. <3

)
)

It's funny because my in-game name is also Haru. XD And the first character I increased my affinity with has the same name!

Remember when I said there are some Harry Potter references? One of them is the houses. Jabberwock house, as I know from the story so far, are composed of only Ghoul students, and they're mostly into taking care of animals and other creatures.

I really like a chat-style interaction. It reminds me of Mystic Messenger and PICKA. Both are virtual-messenger style of otome games I used to play in the past. :)

Anyway, it's just my second day, and I've been enjoying this game a lot. With its gripping storyline, fun and interactive games and mini-games, the lovely art style, and loads and loads of cute cats, you'll surely enjoy it!

I can't wait to continue the rest of the available stories. So if you're into this type of game, or if you're curious about it, feel free to try it out!

I'll end this post here. Thanks a lot for reading, and I'll see you around! Happy gaming! ^^
