In the future, Artificial Intelligence (AI) has decided to turn against humanity, starting with smart weapons. The only answer to this assault is to use “dumb” weapons – no computer chips, pure mechanical. It is humanities only hope of survival. Welcome to SkyFire68K, no, this is not a Transformers game using questionably Macross/Robotech robots, this is a work in progress release for the Atari Jaguar console.
The Explosions Look Good
One major metric I have for scrolling shooters is how well the explosions look. SkyFire68k has pretty good explosions, though I think it would be better to have different explosions, bigger, for the larger enemies. Right now, it seems to be one explosion for all enemies.
Granted, that explosion looks good, a little variety would be nice.
Another metric I measure scrolling shooters by is firepower. SkyFire68k looks good in this category, different weapons are different colors. There are a few ships to choose from as well (something most scrolling shooters ignore). Nice touch.
There Is a Demo Available
Head over to the itch.io page to grab the demo of SkyFire68k. While there, maybe leave a bit of support for the developer, a like, a share, a comment. It all goes farther than we may realize in helping keep developers motivated and feeling appreciated.
From the above embedded video you can see SkyFire68k is already putting TONS of things on the screen. Not quite “bullet hell” but still hectic, may or may not be your cup of tea.
Development for the Atari Jaguar is not as prolific as many of us would like so when something pops up, it is almost a holiday level event. SkyFIre68k is looking like a great addition to the independent homebrew collection that is slowly growing on the Atari Jaguar.
