If you grew up in the 80s and were gaming, then you probably know the war that went on between Atari and Mattel’s Intellivision console. I was too young to care about that myself, being born in 1976, I was too focused on what I had to game on, the Atari 2600. Later I would learn about the console war but by then I was into the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) so it was not even a bygone interest for me. Years later I would pick up an Intellivision console at a yard sale, I think there were 20 or so games with it, overlays, original boxes, etc. It was a fun console, but I could never get over the control disc and a number pad. For those that Intellivision was your jam, get ready as Atari, in collaboration with PLAION UK, have announced the Intellivision Sprint.
40+ Games, New Overlays, One Package
The Intellivision Sprint features 45 games built in, each coming with unique controller overlays to assist in playing. That is a lot of games for one low price, £99.99, North American price unavailable at the time of writing.
There are sports games such as Baseball, Chip Shots Super Pro Golf, Super Pro Skiing, and Super Pro Football (is this a Super Nintendo or an Intellivision?). Arcade favorites such as Astrosmash, Shark! Shark!, Star Strike and more are available out of the box.
Closed System, For Now
Right now, there is no way to add new games to the Intellivision Sprint. That does not mean that someone will find a way to add a cartridge slot or other media option such as Micro SD adapter later.
It is interesting to note that the Intellivision Sprint has wireless controllers out of the box. That is a nice feature.
If you are an Intellivision fan, your All-in-One console is coming. Pre-orders opened on the 17th of October with Europe getting the console on December 23r. North America and Australia will get the console on December 5th. Pre-order on Atari.com now.

Thank you.
I got my Atari 2600 for Christmas 1983. I first remember seeing one the previous year at a friend's. At the time, I wasn't aware of any other consoles existing. I did have an Intellivision much later but like you, could never really get used to the disc controllers. I'm still amazed at how long these consoles were produced. Atari produced the Atari VCS/2600 until 1992. INTV continued producing the Intellivision through at least 1990.
