Duke Nukem 3D Finally Truly 3D Released

in Hive Gaming2 days ago (edited)

Seeing Duke Nukem 3D running using voxels is almost on par with having seen the game running for the first time. This is impressive. The environments take on a new level of detail that was not possible previously. Again, this is a case of fans doing what the companies will not.

Get Some Voxels

The first time I heard the term “voxels” was in a game by Infogrames (now Atari) in 1999 called Outcast. It was for Windows PCs, and it looked phenomenal. Too bad it didn’t really use voxels, it used ray-casting and heightmaps to excel at graphics.

Sure, these graphics will not hold up to the latest Unreal Engine 5 game but for us classic gaming fans, they are just as good. This is almost a new game.

Everything runs as smoothly as butter on hot toast in the morning.

If You Don’t Know the Story of Duke Are You A Classic Gamer?

Sure, you are, we don’t gatekeep here. There are plenty of retro gamers that are not fans of Duke and that is fine.

For those wondering, you play a smart mouth jerk with work boots and almost as many guns as he has one line insult quips. Aliens have decided to invade Earth and that is not going to sit well with Duke and his strippers and beer lifestyle. Interrupting his daily fun was probably the worst thing they could have done.

Originally released in 1996, going on three decades ago, Duke Nukem 3D was not “politically correct” and still isn’t. There have been absolutely no attempts at making this game or character PC. Probably never will be either because without the smart-ass comments, the toilet humor, and strippers, it is just not Duke Nukem.

Voxels seem to be able to breathe new life into classic 3D games. I hope we see more titles getting this treatment in the future.

Grab the files for Voxel Duke Nukem 3D over on ModDB and rock those aliens day.

Nice. I remember Duke Nukem and Wolfenstein 3D

Que recuerdos me traes bro uff.

Thins game brings back so many good memories, I also played it multiple times again later on as a retro game and now kind of want to give it another go.
