Decompiling a game is simply converting the game code back, as close as possible, to the original programming code used. This makes porting the code to other platforms, such as the Sega Dreamcast or PC, much easier. It does not make it simple, it just makes it easier. Originally released on the Nintendo 64 in 1999, Duke Nukem Zero Hour could eventually get the attention of the programming community and enjoy many of the same updates other decompiled games have.
Decompiling Offers the Community So Much
A decompiled game is not a remake, it is literally the original game ported, or made accessible for porting. I am no programming wizard but ports can be done one of two ways, using the original code, or rewriting that code for the new platform. Obviously, if the programmers have access to the original code it is likely to be easier to port the game versus a full rewrite.
Decompiling gives developers access as close to the original code as currently available, outside a source code release.
In the case of games like Duke Nukem Zero Hour, the controls can be adjusted, remapped, etc to make for a better flowing experience. Especially for gamers not used to the Nintendo 64 controller. Porting to PCs could allow gamers to use mouse and keyboard with Duke Nukem Zero Hour as well.
More Accessible Options
While decompiling can lead to more in depth work such as HD texture packs and improved sound and music, there are options not often made use of.
Accessibility.
With just about any Nintendo 64 game, getting to play it with a more familiar, comfortable even, controller is a plus. Making use of a myriad of controllers can only help more gamers enjoy these decompile ports.
Don’t hold your breath for a HD port of Duke Nukem Zero Hour on PC with surround sound and other amenities just yet. The game has only recently been decompiled. Actually, getting something running on any platform is going to be an arduous task and will take time.
We know now that Duke Nukem Zero Hour is an option for future ports though.

Update before even posting -
Duke Nukem Zero Hour for PC has been released. It appears to be as close to the original as possible just with clearer textures and such. Still, impressive to see it already hit the PC community this quickly. Links in the description of the embedded video above by VideoGameEsoterica on YouTube.
