I am huge on preservation and archiving of history. I started in this field with video game magazines when I joined Retromags.com and then moved on to help start Out of Print Archive before slowly falling out of the scene due to life and personal issues. That is why when I learned about Commodore 64 Boxed Sets I knew I had to bring it to the attention of like-minded gamers here in the Hive Gaming community.
My First Lookup on C64Sets
It is probably no surprise to a few people but my first look up on C64Sets was Alternate Reality the Dungeon then the City. I love those two games, well, The Dungeon as I hardly got to play The City that much when I was younger.
Let me tell you, the memories of reading the manual for The Dungeon in the backset of my mom’s station wagon came flooding back and it was awesome. I miss those simpler days. When you had manuals that told stories, had lore in them, were more than just controller settings and maybe, maybe, a page or two of anything before you hit the legal fluff.
That and back then we could read manuals without having to have a tablet or phone to do so. Maybe I needed a flashlight here and there, but it was a staple in any 80s kid’s backpack.
Memories Galore
C64Sets is laid out clean and well thought out. Hitting the Boxed Sets section, you get a list of games available. The front of the box is on the left, the game name is in the middle, and the publisher is on the right. Click away and enjoy.
I love simple, clean designs like that. Even if no website I ever created was this clean, I can respect it.
Checking out their Links section reveals a plethora of links to websites that cover all things, Commodore. I could get lost in their links section.
What games did you rock on your Commodore computer? Shoot, what retro games in general were your anthem? I was all about Altnernate Reality on computers and Robowarrior on the NES console back in the day.
