Muskateer Released for Commodore 64

in Hive Gaming2 months ago

Psytronik Software are quite prolific with releases for the Commodore 64. This is great news for fans of the classic gaming computer, me being one who enjoys seeing new games for it. Especially newer games that feature aesthetics from more modern gaming experiences. It shows the C64 has A TON more left in the tank of untapped potential. Muskateer is one more shining example of that. Just don’t get attached, it is apparently short.

A Bit of an Alternate History Lesson as You Slash Through Enemies

Set in 17th century France, Muskateer tells the story of Queen Anne who has been betrayed by Cardinal Richelieu. The Cardinal has stolen the queen’s diamond studs. The queen’s maid has sounded the alarm and three muskateers have already fallen in the line of duty.

You are the last musketeer available.

Save your fellow muskateers and get back Queen Anne’s diamonds and end the cardinal once and for all for his treachery.

2D, Classic Action Adventuring Awaits

Muskateer is squarely in the 2D realm, right where the Commodore 64 shines. You can expect action across the cityscape of 17th century France, below the streets, and anywhere a dastardly criminal could hide.

The game is a single screen at a time affair, similar to Goonies and many other classics on the Commodore 64. You can see all of the obstacles ahead of you and plan accordingly.

Some in the comments on the itch.io page have stated that the game is short. About 15 to 20 minutes once you understand the challenges ahead.

On one hand, this sounds like a bad deal but Muskateer is only $4. There is replayability here too – can you complete the game without getting hit for instance?

If you are a fan of swashbuckling action and want to play something well animated and detailed on your Commodore 64, or emulator of choice, then grab Muskateer on itch.io.

It's really nostalgic and great news that a new game is coming out for the Commodore 64. Although Muskateer is a small game, I think its visual story and replayability take it to unique heights.

Muskateer shows there is a lot of life left in the Commodore 64. I cannot wait to see what other developers can create on the classic computer.
