Furore is an upcoming brawler for the Atari Lynx, currently in development by TRIADE. If you are a fan of Final Fight, Streets of Rage or one of the many other brawlers available, you will want to check out Furore. There is a playable demo available to check it out firsthand (no need to pay for access via Patreon).
My Favorite Genre
I am a huge fan of brawler titles which probably is why I am so picky about which ones I put my time into. There is a feel to these style games that so many miss. Furore is not perfect in this regard, in the demo named Furore Demo – SV24WE, it is 50/50.
It is interesting getting to see these titles in development because we get a chance to see where things are. For instance, with Furore, they got the feel of the attacks right with the larger, baseball bat carrying enemies but completely missed it with the smaller ninja guys.
It comes down to animation. What I mean is, it doesn’t appear that I am hitting the smaller enemies with attacks, they have only a couple frames of animation. Attacking you, walking, and seemingly one frame of animation for being hit. The larger guys have more to their animations when being hit so it feels like I am hitting them. The visual clues are there.
Giving More Fun to Atari Lynx Owners
In today’s world, you don’t have to be a physical Atari Lynx, plus expensive mod cart (affiliate link), owner to enjoy Lynx games. Developers can make new games and fans can enjoy them without fear as Atari seems pretty open to this type of fan support (I would not suggest selling anything while implying Atari endorses it unless they really do). Emulate, play on real hardware, whatever, just play and enjoy the Lynx and games like Furore as it continues development.
Check out Furore over on the AtariAge forums and download the latest build. While there, sign up, it is free, and give your thoughts and support if you want.
Were you an owner of the Atari Lynx back in the day? I wanted one but man, that price tag (over twice what a Game Boy cost, released that same year) killed it for me. I couldn’t even afford a Game Boy, but I knew if I wanted one bad enough, I could mow lawns and do odd jobs for a summer to get the money for that and a game or two.
Let me know in the comments what you think of the Atari Lynx.
