New Sega Dreamcast Visual Memory Units in Development, VM2 Current Name

in Hive Gaming3 years ago (edited)

Are you a diehard Sega Dreamcast fan? If so, you probably know the DreamMods website. It is home to Bluetooth Sega Dreamcast controllers, keyboards, improved Visual Memory Units (VMUs), etc. That last one, VMUs, is the point of this article. Seems the owner, and master modder, of DreamMods is working on a VM2, as he is calling it. Keep reading to find out what that means for fans with deep pockets.

Features to die for

There are many features being baked into the new VM2, I am pulling only a couple here. For the full list head over to Dreamcast Talk's forums.

First, a newer LCD screen featuring a higher resolution is planned. Next, backlit screen (thank goodness), four times the memory capable of holding about 50 games. There are more features that may be of interest as well.

The shells will be original, new, creations designed in the style of the original Sega Dreamcast VMUs. This is great news meaning scarcer, and scarcer, product is not being destroyed to make VM2s.

Additional details

Unfortunately, at this time, additional details are hard to come by. When the VM2 is ready for public purchase, it will be made available on the DreamMods website.

As you can see, the design is very similar to the original designs Sega released. This is good news for compatibility and ease of use for fans of the originals.

Judging by the prices of other available product on the DreamMods website, these will be premium in price. That is to be expected as these are probably hand assembled, the work of one man, and looking at comments from customers, are professionally packed.

Will you be purchasing the Sega Dreamcast VM2 when it is available? Let me know in the comments below.

Head over to eBay to grab a deal on Sega Dreamcast items, your purchase using my link gives me a small commission but costs you nothing extra.
