Mario 64 is an iconic game that will always live on in everyone's memory.
I am glad it was received well. There are so many mods for Mario 64, I suggest any fan of the original to Google for them. This one is one of the more interesting ones to me (I am coming out of an extreme interest in the Back Rooms genre).
It is a shame that console game makers don't understand the power of going the Doom route. Doom still sells well but the source code is available for anyone to mess around with and improve.
