Bubble shooting arcade games were popular in the late 80s for some reason. We had Puzzle Bobble, Pang/Pomping World/Buster Bros, Bubble Bobble, and many more released during this period. Buster Bros is the subject of this article, or Super Pang if you lived anywhere other than North America. The Sega Genesis was known as the arcade console to own here in the United States but for some reason, it never got a port of Super Pang/Buster Bros. This is odd because the TurboGrafx-16, the Genesis rival till SNES came along, did for their CD-ROM attachment. Thanks to some fans that know their way around the C programming language, a port is on the way.

Gaming Was Simpler Back Then
Back in the 80s and 90s gamers, particularly arcade gaming fans, did not have to sit through a long tutorial just to play. Games were, mostly, created with pick up and play being the ideal set-up. Super Pang is one such release. Watching the attract screen for a few seconds will get the point across and you are off to destroy bubbles on each level and move onto the next.
You could think of Super Pang as an overehead, single screen, shooter of sorts. Just your character is limited to the bottom of the screen, just like in other classic arcade games like Galaga, Galaxian, and many others.
Finally Coming Home to the Sega Genesis
Work began on the Sega Genesis port of Super Pang in December 2024 when developer RCampeader made the announcement on X, formerly known as Twitter.
This port of Super Pang is using the indie developer friendly Sega Genesis Development Kit (SGDK). That does not mean there is not a lot of coding behind the scenes required as knowledge in C programming is needed.
