If you are a Sega fan and only gaming on a mobile device then you know how wishy washy Sega can be. It is more than a slight headache trying to get certain releases from them due to their purging, then re-releasing, titles almost regularly. It seems we may be in store for another purge as Sega has made a big move with their mobile ports. This time, they are completely free, no ads, no cost to remove ads, just free. So, grab them while you can.
Familiar Territory for Sega Fans
Sega makes it hard for new fans to appreciate their titles. Sure, if you grab them, they are yours and you can download them later, as long as the files are kept available by the company. That is not the issue. The issue is just how flippant Sega is with their classic titles, especially on Android platforms.
I am aware of this happening at least a couple of times in one way or another since Sega decided to lean into re-releasing their classics on mobile individually. I hope we are not headed into that again.
Grab Them While You Can
Either way, the titles are free and will be yours if they are delisted, if Sega keeps the files available, anyhow. So, go ahead and grab these titles, advertising free, completely free. Thanks to RetroDodo for this list:
Crazy Taxi Classic
Golden Axe Classics (3 games)
Shining Force Classics (3 games)
Sonic CD Classic
Sonic The Hedgehog 4 Ep II
Streets of Rage Classic
Streets of Rage 2 Classic
Super Monkey Ball: Sakura Ed.
Virtua Tennis Challenge
These titles are also available on iTunes but due to lackluster results using search, I am not providing direct links to those (I do not have an iOS device, nor iTunes installed on my computer).
There are more Sega classics available, simply search Sega on Google Play. Not all are free with no ads though.
What is your favorite Sega game? Mine has to probably be the Streets of Rage franchise or the Shining Force franchise. Let me know yours in the comments below.
Great heads-up. I had no idea these were free now. Streets of Rage is a classic for me too.
I was not aware they were completely free either. It was a pleasant surprise, I added the missing ones to my collection. It seems Sega is indeed preparing to delist these from both app stores sooner than later for unknown reasons.
For me Streets of Rage is the best one out there and being honest, I have only played it 😁🙁. Maybe, I should try some other as well. Gonna try Shinning force, thanks for the update 😇🤞🏻.
For free, they are definitely worth grabbing. Even if you hate them, just uninstall and ignore them in the future. There are some great games in their set on both app stores.
I think this is a great opportunity. Because without any advertising, it is very rare nowadays. Especially for people who are fans of Sega games, this can definitely be something very special. It was nice to read such a nice discussion.
I agree. It seems they are preparing to delist them though so this is not a method of release they are going for long term. I am not sure how they will bring them back to the app stores, if at all at this point. This being Sega, they could be removed for a long time before coming back in maybe packs for a set price or something.
