Phantasmatic Brawl: Blockchain Game & Ecosystem Has arrived by ME in Phantasma Phoenix Chain

in Hive Gaming8 days ago

Greetings to all Play-to-Earn lovers and gaming enthusiasts of every kind.

Today I’m super excited to share something that has taken up almost all my time and energy over the past few weeks: the “launch” (Game JAM version, so don’t expect too much LMAO) of my new blockchain game called Phantasmatic Brawl.

This project was developed for the Phantasma Phoenix Chain using the Phantasma SDK together with the Godot Engine, and it represents an idea that has been maturing for quite some time: to create a fun, competitive game that uses blockchain in a simple way, without complications for the player.

Phantasmatic Brawl is an online 2D Platform Brawl for 2 to 4 players per match, inspired by games like Fall Guys in terms of chaotic mechanics and varied mini-games. For now, we only have the Brawl mode, but the plan is to expand into other modes such as Capture the Frag, Defend the Point, and more creative challenges involving combat and group fun.

100% Onchain Login and Registration

One of the things I wanted from the start was to remove that common barrier in web3 games: the need to connect external wallets, import private keys, and deal with pop-ups or manual signatures.

In Phantasmatic Brawl, as soon as you create your account, the game automatically generates a blockchain address, private keys, and an initial amount of KCAL so you can start playing right away.
All of this is synchronized directly onchain. That means that even though it’s a blockchain game, the experience for the player is almost like a web2 game: simple, fast, and without that initial frustration many still feel in the web3 world.

Leaderboard with Real Rewards

We already have a functioning Leaderboard system with Seasons.

The idea is to bring that sense of continuous progression:

At the end of each season, players will be rewarded with network tokens currently KCAL (as it’s still in the testing phase), but with future plans to also include SOUL.

The system works in an interesting way because each match created or joined costs a small KCAL fee.
This fee isn’t just an expense: it goes into a reward pool for the Leaderboard. Half of the KCAL is burned, helping balance the game’s economy, and the other half is distributed among players according to their ranking.

This system not only encourages healthy competitiveness but also creates a sustainable economic loop, where playing helps keep the game alive.

Integrated In-Game Wallet

Another point I want to highlight is the Wallet integrated directly into the game.

You don’t need to leave the game or open external websites to deposit, withdraw, or transfer tokens to another player.
Everything is done through the Phantasmatic Brawl interface in a simple and secure way. This feature was born out of the idea of making the experience more fluid. If we’re already in the game, why not do everything right there? It’s a small detail that makes a huge difference, especially for those who aren’t so familiar with the blockchain universe.

Staking Manager (A Promising Future)

Although it’s still more of a future-focused feature, the game already has a functional Staking Manager for testing.

The vision is that staking will offer players exclusive advantages, such as:

  • Increased reward earnings,
  • Participation in loot box and item raffles,
  • And possibly perks in competitive modes.

All of this will follow the Phantasma Phoenix Roadmap, but it’s rewarding to see that the foundations are already in place.
Currently, it’s already possible to stake, unstake, and collect KCAL, even though there aren’t yet significant additional rewards.

Synced Profile and Future Cross-Login

The Player Profile is also 100% synced with the blockchain and multiplayer system, which opens doors for many future customization features.

One of the next steps is to implement alternative login options, such as Steam, Google, and Facebook, allowing players to use their existing accounts to log in to the game.
This kind of integration is essential to bring the experience closer to web2 audiences, who often avoid web3 games because they find them too complicated.

Brawl START

For now, Brawl is the only mini-game available, but it already gives a good sense of the game’s concept.

You can join an automatic matchmaking queue or create your own private room and invite friends to play.

The mode is simple but fun: 2 to 4 players enter a survival battle, where:

  • The last player standing takes the biggest prize and earns more points on the Leaderboard.
  • All players receive a share of the KCAL spent to create the match, meaning even the last place still gets something.

This mechanic incentivizes players to keep playing without the frustration of leaving empty-handed.

Current Development Challenges

I can honestly say that this version of Phantasmatic Brawl was a true personal challenge.
It took about two and a half weeks of development, and everything was done by me:

  • Art,
  • Programming,
  • Overall design,
  • Game design,
  • Blockchain integration,
  • And even the tedious testing phase.

If developing an online game with a team is already complicated, imagine doing it solo. Finding bugs was like looking for a needle in a haystack, because many issues only appeared when more players were interacting simultaneously.

image.png

Currently and probably for a while the game may contain errors and bugs that don’t crash the game but might give some advantage, benefit, or even a way to obtain KCAL. I kindly ask anyone testing the game to report as much of their experience as possible so I can make it a more enjoyable experience for all players.

Roadmap and Future Vision

The long-term goal is to turn Phantasmatic Brawl into an ecosystem game, where the Phantasmatics those blue creatures that define the game’s look become NFTs that grant access not just to Brawl but to other games within the same universe.
Due to time constraints and the fact that this version was made for a Game Jam, I had to cut many features in half.

For example, Skin and customization systems were removed in this initial phase, but they’re not off the table.
Once we have more time and support, these elements will be reintroduced to enrich the player experience.

Keyboards

The gameplay of Phantasmatic Brawl is simple and straightforward, designed so that anyone can jump in and have fun from their very first match.

  • Movement: use the W-A-S-D keys to move your character around the map.

  • Attack: press Q to attack opponents.

  • Emote/Taunt: the E key activates the selected emote, perfect for taunting your opponents mid-battle.

  • Platforms: platforms with support can be dropped through by holding S and then pressing W; higher unsupported platforms cannot be dropped through.

  • Each player starts with 5 lives, and the battle continues until only one survivor remains.
The last one standing wins the match and, of course, takes the biggest KCAL reward.
