How do you like your coffee?

As cliche as it sounds, I love my coffee without sugar but also, it has to be specifically made with freshly roasted beans. But what about you?

During my stay in Papua, I had the opportunity quite a few times away from a good quality coffee. I forgot to bring my coffee tools cause I thought I won’t be really long stationed here. Now, it has been about 3 weeks that I am around Papua, almost feeling like a local. But one thing for sure is that, without coffee I felt like something was truly missing.

Do I get annoyed if I don’t get quality coffee?

Sort of… To be honest, it’s quite easy to hire me to work. All I need is some specialty coffee, AC, a WIFI and that’s about it. I am less fussier than most people as long as there’s quality coffee.

By quality, I mean something that’s from a roastery, freshly grinded beans, even better straight from the farm.

Can I feel the difference now if I were given just regular coffee? Yes. I can certainly tell if that coffee was of a low quality and even the store bought cheap coffee.

These past few days, I haven’t had my coffee and I remember, there’s actually a roastery around me that sells quality coffee.

So, from there I got one of their freshly roasted beans and being a little crafty with my tools. I purchased a $2 paper filter from a DIY store and bought a $1 funnel to hold my paper filter.

This situation reminded me back when I was in Thailand, trying to be a little crafty with my coffee. At the time, it was even worse that I didn’t even get access to specialty coffee and more like I didn't know where I could get them. So, I had to survive with the shittiest coffee I could find and make them gourmet.

But now that I know, a specialty coffee is all I need to also survive everywhere, I learned my lesson.

If I were to be stationed somewhere a bit far from the coffee shop, I’d stock up on coffee. Interestingly, I could survive days without food but without coffee, that would be quite a disaster 😂

This is why, since I’ve noticed I’ve eaten quite a bit over here because food is also provided for and since my goal is also about losing my weight, I decided I needed to do something about it.

By the way, a little review of Omliyom coffee from Pegunungan Bintang

This coffee is grown around Highland Papua called Pegunungan Bintang specifically around Omliyon. It’s full-washed and when filtered right, it has a brown sugar type of sweetness to it that you don’t need to add more sugar.

Since it is grown in higher altitude, this coffee has a punchier feel to it that makes you feel extremely more alert. The body is tea-like and almost as clear as regular black tea that you’re brewing. It’s such a pleasant afternoon drink that makes you just want to have more of it.

If you get the chance to try Papua coffee than one grown in Wamena, this one is worth trying and actually changes the way I think about Papua’s coffee itself.
