It has been warm in my region, eastern Germany, and the plants are in summer mode. Some of the plants that had been sharing their leaves from winter to spring have started to bolting.

A mustard plant is flowering and about to drop seeds. The plant in the photo is called red (Asian) mustard, which has fine spiciness with seaweed like taste, and I love it so much. I'm going to leave it there and let it drop its seeds. Hoping it will grow on its own in the fall, which often works 😁

This past week, the fava beans have been putting on more and more pods and growing bigger and bigger. So far, they are doing well without any insect damage. I am looking forward to boiling the fava beans and seeing the bright green color between spring and summer and using them in pasta and quiche.

Talking about summer vegetables, I have been dividing the peppers into larger pots. I hope they recover well after being in small pots for so long. The pepper in the photo is Aji Charapita, and it's said its dried fruits cost 20,000 euros per kilo. Since I'm curious to its taste, I have tried every year for the past several years. This year I want to overwinter it and grow it like a tree. Fingers crossed!

My balcony is small, maybe 2 square meters, so I try to grow plants that are hard to buy like Aji Charapita above. Other than Aji Charapita, I have been growing oyster plants that taste like oysters. It was tasty but I wasn't successful to have enough harvest last years. So I try it this year again. And I was so happy to see it sprouted this week 🥳

This year's first attempt at growing ice kraut has been relatively easy. The fleshy leaves are plump and have a fun texture. I enjoy harvesting and biting on it in the balcony although I wish they were a little salty like Italian agretti, but that's OK. I will sprinkle salt on them when I serve them. I'll keep it a secret until the plant grows big enough for my daughter. She may eat it all up 😁

I'm glad I bought a camera a year ago. Now I can photograph these details exactly.

In addition, I also grow okahijiki, agretti, and sea asparagus. The sea asparagus is finally sprouting.

Next week I plan to harvest off the spring salad and plant goya (bitter melon) in the space. I also need to put up some netting for the bitter melons and malabar spinach.

That's it. Have a good Sunday and happy gardening 🌞

Happy Gardening!

Lovely garden. I’m jealous. I always wanted to grow in my balcony too but it wouldn’t fit. Plus I don’t have the time to maintain and I’ve already killed off a couple of plants before forgetting to water them 😆😭

You can start from a pot of basil or something useful or indoor green like Pothos. And to tell the truth, there are a lot of plants that didn't survive in my balcony too. That's gardening, my practice will continue until in the end of my life 😉

oooohhh I did try growing basil before, all 3 pots gone 😆💀

There is so much joy in watching these little ones sprout! And so fast, like every thing is constantly changing, every day and even from morning to evening🌱 It's lovely to see you enjoying your city-garden💚

Happy to read so. I sit on a chair in the balcony and can spend quite long time just by watching plants. Just 2 square meter but ja we can do a lot 💚

Just 2 square meter but ja we can do a lot 💚

Indeed, I love it. Even through the limitation I guess there is more room for creativity😊 There is some quite interesting People on youtube doing some small-surface-city-gardening, I forgot the name, but could find them if you are interested for some additional inspiration? (or maybe you already have enough😁)

I tend to watch large scale gardeners' videos or more like videos from farm while dreaming to have one in the future 😂 I look for balcony gardeners' videos. Good suggestion, kesityu!

I know these dreams too😁🌻
https://www.youtube.com/@SpicyMoustache/videos this guy, I find him quite interesting!!

Thanks for the suggestion @kesityu.fashion! I added the channel in my must watch list :)
