Many friends talked through comments related to corn crops; I am going to write this article on their request. In this article, I will try to talk to every point that needs guidance from a small gardener or a farmer. First of all, we talk about what is corn and why this crop is grown. Corn is an agricultural crop that produces food for humans as well as fodder and silage for animals, which means that the food of the animal is also the source of the crop. In addition, poultry farms are also used in feed, biofuel, and other industries.
Maize is cultivated in many countries of the world, including Pakistan. If good land preparation, good quality seeds, timely use of fertilizers and water, weed control, and spraying to protect against caterpillars are followed, then better results can be achieved from the maize crop.
The first step for good maize production is land preparation. For this, the help of various agricultural tools is required. First, deep plowing is done in the land so that the land can be dug well. For this, the help of a traditional plow or disk plow is taken. After this, the land is softened with a rotavator or cultivator. The purpose of all this is to clear the land of weeds.
I used the laser leveler to level the land so that water is saved and the seeds can be sown on an even surface. To further improve the fertility of the land, organic fertilizer or cow dung is used in it, which can significantly increase production.
Corn cultivation on the beds is known as a modern method, it helps in saving water and increasing productivity.
Planters are used to make beds, which can save time and labor. After watering, the sowing process of seeds begins with the help of workers. While sowing the seeds by hand, it is the responsibility of the workers to align them.
Along with this, choosing good seeds and sowing on time is also important. Seed variety and companies mention/ recommend the correct time so that there is no reduction in production. The best time to sow corn in Pakistan is from the end of February to mid-March. In some areas, sowing can be done in early April.
For crop care, it is important to observe the plants every 2 to 3 days. The unwanted weeds growing in it should be destroyed by spraying or by using a weeder because these unwanted plants consume food and water, so it is necessary to eliminate them.
One advantage of observing the plants is that if a disease has attacked, timely treatment is possible through spraying. And in case of weakness, if necessary, changes can be made in the amount of fertilizer and water.
As you can see, I inspected my field thoroughly and found that the plant was attacked by the stem borer and leaf eating Caterpillar. You might have guessed from the condition of the plant.
I would like to write about some of the pests that can attack the corn plant, including:
- American Armyworm
- Stem Borer
- Leaf Eating Caterpillar
Some plants were heavily attacked by the disease, so I decided to spray Emamectin and Leofran, which helped to eliminate the disease of these caterpillars.
When I inspected again a few days after this spray, the plant had regained its health. It can be seen in a healthy condition.
The best time to spray is in the morning or evening, you can choose either of them.
When the corn crop needs water, the plants start wilting. Corn is very water-loving, especially in the summer season.
Water the seeds immediately after sowing, then water at intervals of 5 to 6 days and according to the weather and ensure that the soil remains moist.
A balanced diet is essential for the growth and development of corn. For this, I would like to advise:
- Phosphorous DAP 50 kg
- Nitrogen Urea 100 kg
- Potassium 50 kg
I used these fertilizers while watering the crop. I took a drum in which I filled some water and dissolved the fertilizer in the drum. I had to spend some time and effort to do all this. When the fertilizer was completely dissolved, I opened the bag at the bottom of the drum.
By doing this, the fertilizer is not wasted and its effectiveness increases. The plants also look healthy.
As I have mentioned earlier, for good production, it is necessary to have good growth of the pods. For this, timely supply of food and water should be ensured and nitrogen should be divided into two parts. The watering interval should be reduced during the rise in temperature.
When the grains are filled and tightened in the peel, the corn printed process can be started. For this, your nails are checked by pressing the grain. In the morning, harvest and dry it in the shade. When it is completely dry, remove the grains through the machine. With good yields, the reasoning of the crop also helps to generate your revenue.
Conclusion
To prepare the corn crop, many steps have to go through the process of harvesting from the preparation of the land to the harvesting process. If all these steps are done well, it can achieve good yields which not only generate for us but also for the production of our country. But in Pakistan, the rate of agricultural commodities is low and the cost is high as the rates of fertilizers and seeds are high and the water from the tube well is also expensive.
