My stay in the Ardèche is coming to an end and as the bus whirls around the bends towards the nearest station, I am putting together this article recapitulating all the actions we took in the garden. And finally, looking at the pictures again, I tell myself that one article won't be enough!
But let's focus on today and what I wanted to share with you about the different planting corners and species sown and planted by him and especially together.
To give you an idea, this garden was started only two months ago, but I think it is already very advanced... And I'm not just saying that because it's my brother's ^^!
We'll start with this old washhouse, which is surely one of my favorite places. Indeed, without water or a system for catching and irrigating water, there is no garden! It's as simple as that. Here we are on a south-facing slope and fortunately several springs are available, even if some of them almost dry up in the middle of summer.
It is also a particularly good place for meditation I think...
The second most important place is the seedling table. This is where all the plants that will go to the growing beds or the few pots in front of the house are placed.
This one is full, but when I left it was almost completely empty, that's how well we worked !
Here, filling bottles for the day at the washhouse where the main spring flows.
One of my favorite plants, which can be found in abundance, is comfrey, which is used to prepare a purine with many virtues for treating plants. It is also a pollinator's paradise and in this respect it is a very useful plant in the garden.
Perhaps my great favorite: nettle ! It is an exceptional source of protein and can also be used to make purins to feed or treat plants.
Here, a small omelette with home-made sourdough bread.
This is the tomato garden, but the tomatoes are still a long way from fruiting as they were planted a little over a fortnight ago. So we'll see about that a little later !
A little lower down, there is a cultivation bed with mainly potatoes combined with beans of different species. The whole thing is covered with a large mulch as a source of nutrients for the soil.
Transplanting some salads in the ground. They are 'oak leaves' if I'm not mistaken...
Two other cultivation beds are about 12m long. The first is covered with potatoes

Here is the greenhouse dedicated to the sowing of squash, courgettes, cucumbers and gherkins... All the Cucurbitaceae !
The time has come to sort out the plants before transplanting them into the ground.
Here we are on the board in question, in the middle of a session on a beautiful sunny day. Unfortunately I don't document as much as I would have liked, but on one of the pictures above you can see the different species.
Dans le même mouvement, on ajoute quelques plants d'aubergines, toujours au même endroit... On retrouve le même paillage important et conséquent, composé de pailles, de feuilles et de foin principalement.
We will finish here for this first episode with the last pictures, the neighbour's dog who spends all day with us, a small handful of wild strawberries and the Ardèche skies above us :)

Mon séjour ardéchois se termine et tandis que le car tournoie dans les virages en direction de la gare la plus proche, je mets en page cet article récapitulatif de toutes les actions que nous avons effectuées dans le jardin. Et finalement, en revoyant les images, je me dis qu'un seul article n'y suffira pas !
Mais concentrons nous sur aujourd'hui et ce que je souhaitais partager avec vous des différents coins de plantations et des espèces semées et plantées par lui et surtout ensemble.
Pour vous donner un ordre d'idée, ce jardin a été commencé il y a à peine deux mois, mais je trouve pour le coup qu'il est déjà très avancé... Et je ne dis pas ça parce que c'est celui de mon frère ^^ !
Nous commencerons par cet ancien lavoir qui compte sûrement parmi mes endroits préférés. En effet, sans eau ou système de captation, d'irrigation : pas de jardin ! C'est aussi simple que cela. Ici nous sommes sur une pente exposée plein sud et heureusement plusieurs sources sont disponibles, même si certaines sont presque tarries en plein été.
C'est aussi un endroit particulièrement propice à la méditation je trouve...
Dans le deuxième endroit par ordre d'importance, on trouve la table des semis. C'est là que sont toutes les plantes qui rejoindront les planches de cultures ou les quelques pots devant la maison.
Là celle-ci est pleine, mais à mon départ elle était presque entièrement vide, c'est vous dire si nous avons bien travaillé !
Ici, session de remplissage des bouteilles pour la journée au lavoir où coule la source principale.
Une des plantes que je préfère et que l'on trouve en abondance, c'est la consoude et qui sert notamment à préparer un purin aux nombreuses vertus pour soigner les plantes. C'est aussi le paradis des pollinisateurs et en cela, c'est vraiment une plante très utile au jardin.
Peut-être ma grande favorite : l'ortie ! Source de protéine exceptionnelle, on peut aussi en faire des purins pour nourrir ou traiter ses plantes.
Ici, une petite omelette accompagnée du pain au levain fait maison.
Là, c'est le jardin des tomates, mais celles-ci sont encore loin de la fructification comme elles ont été plantées il y a un peu plus de deux semaines. Nous reverrons cela un peu plus tard donc !
Un peu en contrebas, on trouve une planche de culture avec essentiellement des pommes de terre associées à des haricots de différentes espèces. Le tout avec un important paillage comme source de nutriments pour la terre.
Repiquage de quelques salades en pleine terre. Il s'agit de 'feuilles de chêne' si je ne me trompe pas...
Deux autres planches longues d'environ 12m. La première est recouverte de pommes de terre
Quelques graines de haricots dans une main chargée de la terre du travail...
Voilà la serre dédiée au semis de courges, courgettes, concombres et cornichons... Tout les Cucurbitacés quoi !
Vient le moment de faire le tri avant d'aller repiquer tout cela en pleine terre.
Nous voilà sur la planche en question, en plein session par une belle journée ensoleillée. Malheureusement je ne documente pas autant que je l'aurai souhaité, mais sur une des photos au dessus, vous pouvez voir les différentes espèces.
