You will never know it can if you never give it a try... - taken from the statement of William Cobbett that resounds volume!
Hello...Hello, amazing people of the Hive! How are you today? Well, I sincerely hope you are healthy and fine! Today is another day of spreading kindness, love and enthusiasm!
Well speaking of enthusiasm, I am sharing with you today my enthusiastic goal of growing String Beans in my garden. As far as I know, string beans yield more in full sunlight however my garden is a partly shady area like it only gets 2 or 3 hours of sunlight a day. Nevertheless, I am still positive and hopeful that I could grow some in my area because string bean is one of my favorite vegetables.
PREPARING THE PLANTING AREA...
Preparation has always been the most tiring part😂. However, I am just so lucky to have been blessed with adorable and helpful students who assisted me with everything in the garden🙏🥰. I always include them in the planning also and hear their ideas and suggestions to make our plan a success.
As part of the preparation, we dig the area where we plan to plant the string beans for about 6 inches. Then we filled it with dried leaves. The boys prepared dried leaves beforehand so the work was a lot faster.
We mixed soil, coconut sawdust, and animal manure and put it on top of the dried leaves.
Preparing the soil mixture took us weeks😂 because we've done it only during breaks or vacant time. We even took small rocks out from it.
Although it was not yet planted, I decided to make a trilles where the string beans could occupy and yield. I did it myself instead of letting my students do it because sharp tools were used and I could not risk their safety doing it.
After, we put another layer of soil mixture and replanted our string bean seedling from our mini -nursery🥰.
I also bordered it with plastic bottles so that I can still add up more soil and animal manure as it grows. As you can see, I put cement on it for stronger hold and painted it too.
Although it was deprived with full sunlight, it still looked good😂. So far, I am pleased by the result. Worth it of giving it a try!🥰
As to the question, "Will my string bean thrive in a shady area?" I guess, it's 50/50😂! The last photo which is captured today will tell, what do you think?
I know that as string beans grow, it will need more sunlight because it will have more leaves, flowered and stuff so I've searched and tried to be resourceful on how to give support to the sunlight requirement. I got this idea of put or hang used CDs somewhere near it so that it can provide light from its reflection. I am not sure it works but how will I know if I don't try it, right?☺️
That's all for now Hiveians! I will give you updates on the CD thing once I tried it and see results. Well, I hope you enjoyed reading this post. I sincerely appreciate and truly grateful for the love and support you shared with me. Thank you so much and see you on my next blog!🥰
Warm hugs and Best regards! Bye, bye. God bless!🙏 Happy Gardening!🥰💕
