It is a great opportunity to get in touch with you today. I believe everybody on this noble and special platform is doing well. I will use this special opportunity to share what I have for you this day. I will like to talk about my plantain garden. Plantain is one of the most used African food stuffs. In Africa particularly Ghana, plantain is one of the foods that people eat a lot. Plantain is used for making many delicacies in Ghana. Some use plantain to come 'fufu'. 'Fufu' is normally eating with light soup. 'Fufu' is a pounded cooked plantain and cassava but you can also use only plantain to pound 'fufu'. Ripe plantain can also be roasted and eat. It is normally eaten with roasted groundnuts. Plantains are also used for chips called plantain chips.

PLANTAIN PLANTS

Plantain plants have a lot of suckers around the parent plants. These suckers is what reuse to plant. Plantain plant normally do well in a loamy soil. Plantain plant only grow very well in most of the forest lands. I have a small plantain garden at the back of my house. There is about 600 to 700 plans in the garden. All my family feed from this garden. Right now there are a lot of plantain to be harvest in this garden. I normally sell most of the plantain to the plantain buyers because I and my family cannot eat all the produce.

PLANTAIN READY TO BE HARVEST

I uses the income I get from the plantain to expand the garden every year. People like plantain a lot because they believe that plantain have a lot of energy. We believe that there is some food nutrients like iron in plantain. In Africa particularly in Ghana here, we use plantain for pounding fufu. This is the major use of plantain in Ghana.

FRESH PLANTAIN

One plant of plantain produces a lot of individual plantain. The stem of a plantain plant is not too strong so most times when the plantain starts to yield, it is normally supported with a strong stick so that it will not fall down when a strong wind blow. It is also good and advisable to read around plantain plants anytime that there are weeds around it. Apart from plantain to the buyers, I also sell the plantain suckers to the Farmers who will come to me for them. Plantain farming is one of them profitable business in Africa particularly Ghana.

Oh, sorry, I mean, do your bananas changes color to yellow when it is ready to harvest? (I have seen bananas that are ready for harvest but the color is still green).

Ok, this is plantain but only few varieties of banana in Ghana do not change colour to yellow when it is ready to harvest, most of the varieties changes to yellow whenever it is ready for harvest.
