Last Garden Journal in March 2025

Since the beginning of March, my garden journal has been so challenging. As the days go by, the month of Ramadan which is right in March is also so challenging from day to day. Not only the effects of unpredictable weather but also my energy is getting weaker because of fasting for a whole month.

Fasting for one month for 30 days, holding back thirst and hunger for 13 hours with a 9-hour eating window makes this body very weak. Usually in the morning I drink a cup of coffee while looking at my garden and checking a few other things, now I don't do it for a month. I can't live without coffee, like a car without gas. So, I just take care of what I have.

You can see how my vegetables have started to be harvested, but, it seems that they are growing very poorly and also seem to have no energy. In other words, plants will know the energy of the farmer, so, it all follows. Like affirmation, even plants need direct affirmation from their owners.

Some of them can grow well, because the vegetables I plant have high productivity that are easy to grow, so they grow as they are. At least I also take good care of them even though only from the remaining energy that is available.

There are vegetables that I have started to harvest, such as spinach. Finally the spinach can grow well, but unfortunately they grow faster than my readiness to harvest. So the stems of the spinach look very thick and also tall, too old to be eaten but I still use it as a source of fiber in the past week. The rest we will make snacks, the leaves will be fried with flour, called spinach peyek.

Water spinach, they are newcomers and are 10 days old. Having been transplanted from the seedling tray, finally they received ab mix vegetable fertilizer and grew very well. Hopefully in April they will grow and be harvested for us to use as additional vegetables.

There are many types of vegetables in March, pakcoy, lettuce and also spinach. Rotation every day so you don't have to get bored of eating it. Sometimes we have harvested the lettuce even though it is not time to harvest it. Lettuce will be very sweet if it is still that small, it tastes like romaine but will lose in quantity. Because lettuce seeds are more expensive than others.

Before March ended, I also added kohe (fermented goat dung) which I mixed into the planting medium for chili plants and eggplant. April will be filled with vegetables that I planted in March, hoping to have a good harvest in April. It's quite tiring but I really hope I can continue doing this.
