The Journey Begins - Our Lifelong Dream To Own A Hobby Farm!

Ok, so some of you may have seen my name floating around various areas of Hive over the years, many wont have but my name is Nytehawker. I have been involved in Hive and the Crypto and blogging community here for nearly 4 years and I have more hobbies than I can count! But one of my biggest passions is hobby farming!

My wife and I have finally had enough of the cost of living crisis in the city of Melbourne and have purchased a block of land in the heart of a region called Sunraysia! Located in the top North West Corner of Victoria. It was time for us to achieve our lifelong dream to own a hobby farm!

This is my first post here (I think) and I invite you all to come on a journey with me over the days, weeks, months and years ahead as we take a project and our dream of homesteading and hobby farm life and turn it into a reality! Please feel free to subscribe to my blog to keep track or keep up with all our posts here as we all go on an adventure together!

The Property

Approximately 2300 square metres in size, the property boasts a large shed with self contained 3 bedroom property - That needs alot of work, but is liveable.

We have purchased a water title that will allow us up to 1.5 meg or 1.5 million litres of water which is allocated from the river each year free! This water runs via a channel to our property where we have pumps that take the water from the well to the tank and then via another pump to service the property.

The Gardening And Farmstead/Hobby Life

We are excited to begin the process of re-building the chicken coop and adding plants, fruit trees and vegetable gardens to the property.

A old water guage bordering the wilderness. It still works!

The Olive Tree - Extending A Branch Of Hope

Finally we were greeted with the most amazing gift in the backyard. A lone Olive Tree bearing fruit. It represents for us the promise of hope in a long journey filled with struggle and hardship. In this property we have been 'extended an olive branch' - The chance to move forward into a new season in our lives, away from the struggles of our previous lives and a journey into a new one filled with wonder and joy.

Final Thoughts

Thanks for your time! Stay tuned for my next post as we begin the renovations to turn this place into our dream paradise! I will be so pleased for you all to come along for the ride!

Heaps of potential there. Plenty of physical and mental space. Congratulations.

Thanks Matt! You personally know the struggles we have gone through and the determination we have shown to turn things around! Your support along with those at #Hiveaustralia has been invaluable!

Hi people. I will definitely need advice and tips in the times ahead so I look forward to engaging and building in this community. In the past I have only dropped the occasional comment for some of you but mostly just like your posts to support you all in your own endevours to build your gardens and hobby farms. My wife and I are very excited for what's ahead and appreciate you all.

Fellow Vicco! I'm down behind the Surf Coast. Great you can draw water though... I imagine it would be dry up there now? Excited to see your progress!

Awesome! Surf Coast of Vic is amazing! We used to go surfing down Torquay way although I'm not much of a surfer, laying flat on the belly was my thing. Very nice part of Vic! We absolutely loved the Bellbrae farms! But way too far expensive and a little too windy for us! There's a big River 5 mins down the road! Does that count? ;)

Ah it's not always windy. I grew up in Jan Juc. I spend a lot of time on the coast, which is hell busy these days, but I live inland a little now as it's less expensive.

Congratulations, quite a big place, but I am sure, you will love building this.

Thank you! We are loving the challenges! We are trying to price out what it would cost to A-frame the flat roof. In the meantime have already set to work installing solar night lights!

Oh, the olive tree is a blessing! While for me who lives in Indonesia, the olive tree is just a beautiful dream 😊

Are you guys fully into slow living now?

Well, I congratulate you. That is an amazing achievement where currently the price of land is also very expensive but when you are lucky, you can find it at the right price 😊

My husband and I also have a dream to have a backyard that can be used for gardening and raising livestock at the same time. It's just that for now, we only start in the mini garden in front of the house. It takes time to work for our dreams but it's worth it!

Thank you so much! It is quite an achievement! We have been through so much hardship to reach this point, but we are determined to beat the struggles we have faced!

We are in the proces of moving. It is a 600km move and very expensive to use 3rd party so each weekend I am taking 1 trailer load at a time. Slow living will be a welcome change to city life.

That's awesome you have already established some of your goals. We are excited to see what comes next! Thank you for taking the time to read and comment!

Yeah everything is expensive and challenging. that is why not everyone be brave to working for their dreams 😊

But Aat the moment it's just small steps. But once we are there full time, we will have an endless amount of content for show and tell! :)
