Rat Snakes, Ground Hogs, and Milkweed

Hello again fellow homesteaders!

Y'all ever have to deal with snakes around your house? See we came from the big city where really the only kinds of snakes you run into are those who try to swindle you in any way they can... Well, there are the zoos and aquariums and such, along with the reptilian collectors you could run into from time to time.

In the wild though, all you will find in NYC in that swine type of a person we sometimes call snakes!

This video's actually an old one(ish). it's from a couple early springs ago, it might have been our second garden since having moved from the city to the woods. Gardening is a long learning game of trial and error.

There are countless things that can go wrong, and you cannot have a perfect system that works for everyone, everywhere... Too many variables in the climate, fauna and the ground itself.

That's actually what the word "terroir" is all about you know. When something is made in a specific region, part of the way it tastes is because of all those things, the air, the different minerals in the soil, the altitude, the humidity.. everything is a factor. So don't call your sparkling wine Champagne if it isn't made there please.

I was in the garden taking care of some holes in the fence, to keep the family of groundhogs from eating everything that grows, everything we eat... and this giant rat snake came into view, so I had to take a video for you guys. It's probably close to 2 meters long... That was a big one, and I like them because they happen to be the snakes that eat the most rodents around these parts. And living in an RV (caravan) those chipmunks and field mice fine ways to get in all the time.

Well let me know what your snake accouters were like, I'd like to hear 'em.

Thanks for Stopping by!

We've NEVER had a snake in our garden in 13 years of living on 5 acres! So what they tell you about Australia isn't neccessary true.

Rabbits, however!
