Spring Gardening Update - by Sunscape

It has been a whirlwind of a week getting most of my vegetable plants into the raised beds. The weather looked promising for the next 10 days. I decided to plant my pepper plants but still keep them under cover, just in case the nights got too cold.

As you can see they were getting to be a nice size and now that the days are warmer my greenhouse tends to get a bit too hot inside.

In this bed I planted Yellow Bell Peppers. I also have some bunching onions and a few garlic growing on the edge as well.

Orange Bell Peppers went into this bed this year along with some Swiss Chard along the outer edges.

The shade cloth is on to protect them from the hot sun and at night I have the heavy plastic to keep the cold air off them. The PVC hoops work perfectly to protect them after planting until they are well established. Once they are settled in after a week or so I remove the shade cloth and the hoops are put away for another year. This method has served me well for many years now and the plants have always survived with this type of protection.

Every year I grow a full tray of 15 plants per variety. These are Red Marconi Peppers that I planted alongside the house where it gets the most sun. I still have to plant all the Jalapeno, Cubanelle, Pepperoncini, Portugal, Cayenne, and African Peppers.

If you are a fellow gardener you know that it is a process to get everything planted. It sure does not happen in one day. I can only bend over so long before my hips and back start to bother me.

The hanging baskets with the Red Acre Cabbage and Snowball Cauliflower are growing nicely. I planted the tower gardens with radish and pak choi which are coming along perfectly. The towers tend to dry out very quickly so I moved them to a shadier spot next to the house.

gardening-grow-bags.jpg

This is the first time I have ever tried using grow bags and I planted Russet Potatoes in them. It will be interesting to see how well they do for me. I do not have enough raised beds or space to grow them so this seemed like a good alternative. I did watch a couple of youtube videos where others have had good success. I have three of the grow bags going and one regular planter with 5 potatoes each. We shall see which one performs the best, and I am keeping my hopes up for a good harvest.

This is one of two rain chains that I have hanging from the gutters off my back porch. I collect the water every year into buckets for watering my seedlings in the greenhouse. I much prefer the rainwater over tap water and I think the plants like it better also.

I wish you all a wonderful weekend and happy gardening to all.

Your tree in the last photo is sooo gorgeous! You are so far ahead of me with planting. I am still struggling to get things ready to plant.

I think being close to the lake and kinda protected helps our temps to warm up quicker. I still have a lot of flowers to plant and now that it is raining perhaps I will clean my house for a change. lol You will get to it all, just take it one day at a time.

Pepper is my favorite plant. I do plant it often because I love it a lot. Your process is easy and sweet. Thanks for it.

You are welcome, and thank you for stopping in. I do plant a lot of different varieties of peppers.

I can see. Your work is amazing.
