Welcome to a new post, dear Hiver!

Germinating plants hasn't been very successful lately; the Eastern climate is a bit harsh, and my cats seem to have declared war on some plants.

However, I decided not to give up, so I've tried again and again. So, like Thomas Edison, I've found a thousand ways to prevent seeds from germinating in hostile climates.

Don't expose them to direct sunlight

Direct sunlight, especially eastern sunlight, burns seeds.

And the only way to use it is to let the germinators get a little light when it's not extremely strong.

So, the 12 noon and 3 p.m. periods are completely out of the question.

Don't overwater them

I don't overwater them, but rain does. This causes them to flood and rot the seeds.

So I'm always making sure they have the right amount of water.

Last year, this method of germinating seeds was a success.

Don't overwater if you're using a greenhouse germinator

Something that happened to me recently, and in the most foolish way, was that I germinated seeds in a sealed plastic container.

I'd done this before, and it really works phenomenally. You don't have to water constantly because it's a mini greenhouse; you can also think of it as a terrarium.

And your seed develops easily there.

How do you do it?

It's very easy: take a sealed plastic food container, put soil in it, your seeds in it, and water very lightly.

Really very lightly.

If you overwater, all the seeds will rot, and it won't do any good.

Keep your sprouts away from dogs and cats

I've already told you about this. My dog is big, so moving around can knock over flower pots (it's happened to me), so I don't let him go into the ornamental plant garden unsupervised.

I know he's big, I know he doesn't mean any harm; he's just a dog who likes to play with everything he sees. So, as a responsible adult human, I'm the one who should be on the lookout.

With my cats, it's a different story. I can't keep them from going into the ornamental plant garden. They jump right in.

So I try other techniques. I love cacti; I have a ton, so I take my cacti and set them up like a kind of mini spiked fence.

They're very smart, so they won't go near a cactus. This way, my sprouts are safe, and so are my cats.

Well, I have to tell you that all this is working out, and I'm happy about it.

I put aside the idea of having a garden for a while. I admit, I was really discouraged by so many incidents. The climate in the East is very harsh, my pets are sometimes terrible with plants, and well, given that, I just waited to see what would happen.

Last year, I tried several times. Nothing worked out the way I wanted; not even the seeds in the seedbeds germinated due to the attacks they received.

But, even though the year is ending, I felt that light telling me to continue.

And I started making new germinators.

These have been around for about 10 days, and two days ago, I've started seeing the little plants emerge from the soil.

It's simply beautiful and exciting.

I think I used a lot of seeds, but it doesn't matter; I'll leave the strongest ones and take care of them.

I hope this project continues well.

I really admire your determination in planting. Like what you said about Thomas Edison, that you've found a thousand ways to prevent seeds from germinating in hostile climates. - this is a great lesson we can have once we are determined in one thing just like planting. We may face many challenges but never give up, instead, learn from it and make sure to continue and apply what is needed to do. Just like experiment in science. If you gave up you will not see the best output or outcome. Just like in real life situation, as we grow older we are learning from the experiences and challenges came to our life, once we overcome those challenges we can just laugh at them and say's "I did it and I'm stronger now!"

That's right, sometimes you feel like giving up, until perseverance knocks on your door and tells you not to give up.

Thank you so much for reading :)

That's absolutely right! 👍 You're welcome 🤗
