Frostfall Village Building Prompt 1 : Luminary Sanctuary

This is a scratch art I finished just now to catch up with this beautiful drawing challenge of @cabalen. It is the Frostfall Village drawing challenge where we draw a specific building for the village until we complete the rest of them. So I am starting with the prompt Luminary Sanctuary.

I am using the same style and theme like I always had done in my previous Forest Folk drawings. If you still recall the fireworks loving creatures I designed I am using the style of their homes for this sanctuary. A conical shaped structure on top of steep hill. This time I am not using the fireworks and naruto clouds that had always been present on my drawings but plain snow fall. This sanctuary like in the prompts is like a beacon that invites and welcomes everyone who sees it to stop and get safe and warm.

This is my initial color palette but it is not working for the frost theme so before I get caught up in my busyness I changed the palette to blue and frosty whites.

image.png
At this stage it is mostly blue I will deal with the snow effect later I am just trying to get the sanctuary right making sure it is coherent with my existing style and theme. The pine garland is set in place and the stairs slowly taking shape

image.png
Notice the stairs took a different shape it is now more like flattened layers of earth. I have an idea of what I need to do but I do not do a sketch as a guide I just keep scratching the surface until something forms out of it. So this drawing can take a different turn at any point.

Time to add more details to further define this piece. The pine outgrowth is basically present on most of my designs as they fill the space quickly especially when I have no other idea. The light source above strategically placed now because that is the part of the canvas that is lighter in color. The snow is now placed randomly but as I scratch off the colors I could add more snow. That is the most tedious part

image.png
This is done all the colors that need scratching off now finished. It is looking too dark like I said previously. I could add a filter or another layer to make it lighter or glow and maybe add a soft light layer any of those would provide the same result.

Colors made more lighter and this is the final look. The Luminary Sanctuary now sitting on top of a steep hill covered in snow and illuminated by the moon above. Hope you like it.

Scratch art, as the name suggests, involves etching or scratching away a surface to uncover a hidden image or design. It's an excellent avenue for experimenting with various colors and textures. Plus, it's a remarkably calming and therapeutic activity.

The beauty of scratch art lies in its freedom from rigid rules.
I am sure you might like it too so go ahead, embrace your creativity, and have a blast. If any questions arise, feel free to leave a comment below.
