Highway Robbery... Literally

I just had to sketch out this comic because the gas prices lately are getting absolutely crazy and pricey. It feels like our wallets are taking a massive hit each time there goes a pump, so I channeled all that frustration into this funny situation.

When the Pump Bites Back
I wanted to take the phrase highway robbery and make it completely literal for this doodle.

  • The Monster Pump: Instead of a regular old machine, I drew the gas pump as a literal monster with giant, sharp teeth ready to chomp down on anyone trying to fill up Look at those scary staring eyes the monster knows exactly what it's doing.
  • The $4.99 Price Tag: Right there in the middle of the horror is that painful number. It's enough to give anyone a scare or a heart attack. Or a caution to just commute or stay put
  • The Expression: I focused on making the character's face look completely shocked and overwhelmed, hands up like he's encountering a wild beast. Because honestly, pulling into a station right now does feel like entering a boss fight
I kept the lines super bold, clean, and flat to let the joke and the expressions really do the talking here. Sometimes you just have to laugh through the pain of the commute, right?
How are the gas prices looking in your area place now? Is your local pump turning into a wallet-eating monster too, or are you lucky enough to be riding a bicycle everywhere? Let me know in the comments

Happy Friday to all
