This is my drawing of a strange bottle with a face in front. I wanted to make it look creepy but also a little funny and maybe autumnal?, like it’s not sure if it should scare you or smile at you. The idea started with just wanting to draw a potion bottle for the sept-amber drawing prompts. I didn’t plan the face at first, but then I thought it would be interesting if the potion itself was alive, so I made the skull inside. But I didn’t want it to be just scary, so I gave it a grin. Now it looks like it knows something about a little secret, which I think fits a bottle that probably holds something magical. or poisonous
I kept the colors muted and simple, mostly green and cream, nothing blue or purple because I wanted it to look like old glass with light shining through it. I didn’t overthink the shape, just a rounded body with a cap that feels like it’s been there for many years. The thick lines make it pop more, and I like how the face almost looks like it’s floating inside, not attached to anything.
The process was just me sketching shapes until the bottle felt right, then adding the face after. It kind of turned into its own character instead of just an object after adding those teeth and nares. You could imagine this bottle talking to you or giving warnings before you drink it be it a potion or a poison.
I think of it as one of those mysterious items a traveler might find in a strange shop. It’s weird, maybe dangerous, but also kind of charming. Hope you like it.
