Wave Pavement Puddles

I am back for the wave pavement prompt for the Doodle Downtown Afterglow drawing challenge. I thought of how a rainy day turns the sidewalk into waves and ripples of water and I decided to go with a big, bright blue puddle right in the center of the path.

Used a warm tan for the pavement to really make that blue wave pop. I love how the reflection of the lamp post turned out with it just being a simple dark silhouette in brown. It also adds that perfect touch of symmetry to the composition as it is reflected on the puddle. Added some green shapes in the back to suggest a bit of a park situation downtown vibe. It really sticks to my love for clean lines and flat, simple color blocks that keep the image feeling organized and sharp.
Getting the shape of the reflection to mirror the lamp post while keeping it stylized was a fun experience. I’m happy with how the bold colors work together to show a wet, rainy day without needing any complex lines and shadows.
