Curly Sonata, Revisited

in Draw A Dayyesterday

Curly Sonata is rehearsing for a performance. It is important that she spends time alone and practice

This drawing started as a quick doodle few days ago and I posted it as a dtiys challenge.

Look, she does not have a chair on. TBH I am not sure how I can draw a chair and it would take me longer to draw a few drafts. I did not like seeing it floating like sitting on an imaginary chair so today I tried my best to give her a chair.

I don't want a complicated design I am aiming for something that looks like a stool. These are the preliminary sketches. I decided to give it a back rest because Curly Sonata needs something comfy to lean on during her rehearsal so the stool idea is now definitely out. The simple tubular legs now had some details and the back rest had this interesting design that I did not plan I just went on doodling and this bird like design came about. In less than 5 minutes I have a finished line drawing like the one on the left. Not that hard or maybe I was just lucky.

Time to color the chair. This is the original palette of Curly Sonata so the chair had this tan color for my choice is it won't work against the color of her clothes.

I thought the curls on her hair are a little bit too safe I wanted something crazy that looks like the hair has a life of its own. Going in different directions. So here is the new Curly Sonata sporting a more bigger and wilder hair filled with different shades of brown which is now different from her original dark hair color. Her skin I prefer to be ashy because she loves staying late at night rehearsing. Her dark colored suit is boing and it needs some vibrant colors so I pick purple, lavender and light violet.

Now that her hair is brown and golden it blends with the color of the chair. The chair is already blocked by her when she is sitting on it must think of a way to make it distinct and obvious. So, I decided to use this shade of green for the chair which nicely compliments the purple shades of her outfit. I had to add two more chairs in the background to give justice to the chair that I love and proud of making in little less time.

Now that the chair issue has been resolved time to add an ambience. I want Curly Sonata to be in a quiet space so she can rehearse well. The look of a studio where the lights are already off and everyone had gone home just one faint light illuminating her face.

And this is improved version of Curly Sonata. Hope you like it.
