I have started a drawing challenge I'm calling Flicker + Filter. This project is a deep dive into that signature raw, messy, and beautifully curated early 2010s aesthetic, blending soft grunge, indie sleaze, and internet nostalgia into daily art.

Today’s prompt is

High Contrast Confessional

Prompt Description / Key Elements: A broken mirror selfie edited with a high contrast black and white filter. Include flash glare and the reflection of a band tee like Arctic Monkeys, Nirvana.

The challenge: to capture a fragmented moment of self-reflection using high-contrast lighting and a deliberately messy filter.

Here is my take:

I wanted this to feel like a secret captured in an instant. The cracked glass symbolizes how our online selves felt back then—vulnerable, exposed, and a little broken. The reflection is wearing an iconic Nirvana tee because music was everything to that aesthetic, serving as a quiet, universal language.

If this aesthetic speaks to you, I highly encourage you to join in. Pick a prompt from my upcoming list, create an art piece, and share your own unique take on the digital dream diary.

Here are some snapshots of the process:
I am using Curly Sonata as my subject she is my original character

Here I am done with the Nirvana tee I thought it would be difficult but it was quick and fun to make.

Gave it a dark background preparing to add the broken mirror which is quite challenging for me but was happy with the results.
