While at the workshop I attended last week, my student’s mom sent me a few pictures saying those were some things my students would like to recreate. I don't think I've mentioned this before but if there’s one thing I like about my current crochet student, It would be the fact that she’s not just determined but very strategic and focused and this makes teaching her so easy. Before every class, she already knows what she wants to make and in what colour.
Last saturday, we had a class as usual and her request was a crochet phone pouch. It's been years since I made a crochet phone pouch and this particular pouch she held as a sample had so many twists and turns. Irrespective, we got started.
I instructed her on how we were going to make the pouch and I even drew a rough sketch for her. With the sketch, she got to work and in three hours, she was done. Did I mention that my student is a fast crocheter? Well, she is and the proof is in the fact that every new week, we are working on a new crochet project and no projects linger for more than a week.
Eventually, we ‘built’ the crochet pouch together using a combination of; single crochet stitches, double crochet stitches and slip stitches, in a colour of her choosing and it turned out really beautiful. We did a mini shoot of the phone pouch alongside a flower bouquet she did about two classes back and we called it a day.
However, as the year is drawing to an end, my crochet class with my student may also be equally drawing to an end. Although this is not a very thrilling realization, I'm still happy in a way. Happy that in the weeks we've been together, the amazing student has learnt and grown even beyond my expectations and I can proudly say she has a proper crocheting foundation.
I like to round up my crochet classes with a seemingly big project, depending on the category the student is in. A big project for a student in the ‘basic/beginner’ category would certainly be different from a big project for a student in the ‘proficient/advanced’ category.
My student mentioned she would like to make a crochet bag as her big project, a selection from the pictures her mother previously dropped and that's such a great choice. I look forward to making the bag with her and I'm confident it is going to turn out pretty well .

Antes de cada clase, ya sabe lo que quiere hacer y en qué color.
El sábado pasado tuvimos clase como de costumbre y ella me pidió que le enseñara a hacer una funda de ganchillo para el móvil. Hacía años que no hacía una funda de ganchillo para móvil y esta funda en concreto que ella trajo como ejemplo tenía muchos giros y vueltas. A pesar de ello, nos pusimos manos a la obra.
Le expliqué cómo íbamos a hacer la funda e incluso le hice un boceto. Con el boceto, se puso manos a la obra y en tres horas la había terminado. ¿He mencionado que mi alumna es muy rápida tejiendo a ganchillo? Pues lo es, y la prueba es que cada semana trabajamos en un nuevo proyecto de ganchillo y ninguno nos lleva más de una semana.
Finalmente, «construimos» juntas la funda de ganchillo utilizando una combinación de puntos bajos, puntos altos y puntos deslizados, en un color elegido por ella, y el resultado fue realmente bonito. Hicimos una pequeña sesión fotográfica de la funda para el móvil junto con un ramo de flores que ella había hecho hace unas dos clases y dimos por terminado el día.
Sin embargo, ahora que el año está llegando a su fin, mi clase de ganchillo con mi alumna también puede estar llegando a su fin. Aunque no es una idea muy emocionante, en cierto modo me alegro. Me alegro de que, en las semanas que hemos pasado juntas, esta alumna tan increíble haya aprendido y crecido más allá de mis expectativas y pueda decir con orgullo que tiene una base sólida en ganchillo.
Me gusta terminar mis clases de ganchillo con un proyecto aparentemente grande, dependiendo de la categoría en la que se encuentre el alumno. Un proyecto grande para un alumno de la categoría «básico/principiante» sería sin duda diferente de un proyecto grande para un alumno de la categoría «competente/avanzado».
Mi alumna mencionó que le gustaría hacer un bolso de ganchillo como proyecto grande, una selección de las fotos que su madre dejó anteriormente, y es una elección estupenda. Estoy deseando hacer el bolso con ella y estoy segura de que va a quedar muy bien .
