Greetings ASEAN Hivers, @justinparke here with a new challenge about language, particularly the expressions and sayings from all over Southeast Asia.

     This week's challenge is all about idioms, proverbs, expressions, metaphors, similes, euphemisms, and sayings that can be found throughout SE Asia or wherever in the world you ASEAN Hivers happen to be located. "Water off a duck's back," "the rice has turned to porridge," "when elephants fight the grass suffers," there is so much figurative language in Southeast Asia, especially when considering all the different cultures, religions, and countries.

     For this challenge basically any kind of "figurative language" that you find interesting enough to share will work. It could be your native language or not, that's not important, perhaps even several different languages or a language you're learning. The most important thing is to provide an English translation or insight into the meaning of the words so we can all understand it. This won't be the easiest challenge for photography, but of course some photos can always make the time pass more quickly. I look forward to seeing your participation.....

     From things that haven't changed in over a hundred years to things that haven't changed much since we were kids, the four winning entries below were all very insightful reads. The sight of worn and pitted concrete floors triggered some memories from my old childhood, and of course there are always some family vibes in anything SE Asian. I could hardly believe that it withstood the strong earthquake back in the early 90's and even survived the second world war. My assumption is that it was built over a hundred years ago but I was surprised that this church I would just casually pass by when I go to the wet market is almost five centuries old.
