A great blessing came in flooding the shore of our barangay one rainy Saturday morning last week, November 18. A fisherman went out to the beach to prepare to go fishing when he noticed an unusual sight. He was pleasantly surprised at the sight of thousands if not millions of krill on the shore. It was mountains of krill to deal with. It was the first time this happened in our barangay and in even in the whole province as far as I know. For more than 30 years in this place, it was the first time it happened and people were just too surprised, excited and happy to have witnessed unusual phenomenon. This means blessing for the people. So, when the news broke on facebook, people from our barangay, from other barangays and even from other towns came in to harvest the stranded krills on shore and in the water. They brought in pails, basins and plastic bags as containers. There were too many of those krills that even if many people went to harvest them, it took until around 12 noon to harvest all.
With this much of a harvest gifted by nature, the spirit of sharing was ignited among the residents. Those who were not able to come to participate in harvesting were shared a portion of their neighbors and friends harvest. I was one of those who was given a share of nature's blessing through my neighbor.
And with this, I was able to prepare a different dish for the day. People said the delicious way to cook it is making it into "tortang uyabang"or krill omelette.
So let me share to you how I prepared krill omelette.
Ingredients:
1 cup of krill
2 eggs
1 cup cornstarch
Onion sliced into small cuts
Sliced garlic
Salt
Other seasoning
Oil
How to prepare:
1.Put 1 cup of krill on a bowl.
2.Crack two eggs into the bowl.
3.Add 1 cup of cornstarch.
4.Add all other ingredients- onions, garlic, salt and other seasongs.
5.Mix all ingredients.
6.Scoop a laddle of the mixture and fry it until brown.
7.Krill omelette is now ready to serve.
That day was like a Krill Omelette Day as many residents in town shared their versions of the recipe.
There were questions if the krill were safe to eat. It had been explained by a representative from the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources that the unusual phenomena is natural and normal and it was not due to pollution or it was it due to the earthquake that strike the province a day before. Or it is a sign that a big disaster is to come. God forbids, as people were speculating. The BFAR explained that there was an abundant food supply for the krill there, the reason they thrive in our seas and got stranded on that part of the shore.
But even on the day the krill were found on the shore, there were no sign of oil spill or chemical spill on the sea. Only krill were found on the shore and no other fish or sea creatures were found killed, which shows that it wasn't due to pollution to the water. There were also no reports of people having upset stomach or stomach problems after eating the krill and I am one of them. 😄

It really tastes good. Yup sarap nga nito isawsaw sa ketchup. Kung di dahil sa nangyari cguru di rin ako nakakain ng ganito. Di naman masyado ito nakikita market sa amin.

The Krill omelette looks delicious. I have never had Krill but it looks like an excellent way to try it 😋
It's tasty and crunchy... We also cook shrimps this way too. But the krills are betterr tasting than shrimp since I don't have to deal with the shrimp shell.
