70 meter pitch makes for tired legs on recent trail run

in ASEAN HIVE COMMUNITY18 days ago

Every Hare has their own choice with how they are going to set a trail for us and some of the Hares are known for trying to punish the other runners as much as possible. I get that 70 meters doesn't seem like a lot but the fact that it happens over a short distance of only 500 meters horizontally is what makes it so much of a laugh for our Hare this week, "Chuck Wow."

This is what the back of the average Chiang Mai Hasher can be expected to look like on one of our mid-week trail runs. Sweaty, face down, dejected. That's the motto I think. Nobody really complains too much about the hills because the Hare is merely trying to keep things interesting by always mixing things up. If all of our trail runs are flat it can get a bit repetitive and one of the main things that we enjoy about these thrice weekly trail runs is that they are always different.

Some of our members have more advanced features on their phones so now we are able to get very detailed information about a trail run/walk/hike/jog.

With this data we are more able to dole out punishment when we get back to the circle because as is tradition the GM will always make the Hares who created the trail be the first people on the ice while the rest of us berate them for making a "shitty trail." It doesn't matter how good the trail was, you always point out the deficiencies or if you can't think of any, make some up! I know that I learned very early on that being at all complimentary of the job they have done will land you, the commenter, on the ice with them for being a "bootlicker."

We do appreciate "Chuck Wow" though because he is one of our most frequent Hares and there is no incentive for the Hares to do this: It's not like they get paid for this.

If you look closely at the satellite imagery above you will notice that there is a "wildlife control" point and this indicates that the land we are doing the run on is National Land. These end up being some of our better runs but we always have to be extra careful to not leave anything behind - as if we ever would - when we are on these runs. This land belongs to the state and as usual, we do not have permission to use it. We are rarely approached by the officials for going on this land because it is there for public use. I suppose I can understand why they might be a little alarmed when 20-30 foreigners with silly outfits on all descend upon their area all at once though.

Chiang Mai is basically completely surrounded by mountainous national parks and that is what makes our place on this earth so special. There aren't many spots on the planet where you can go in basically any direction and within half an hour or so be at some nearly untouched national parks. This is part of what makes the Chiang Mai Hash House Harriers so special. We have tremendous variety in our runs and not many other places with Hash Chapters can say the same. Sure there are place in the world that have better nature but they are normally in very remote places. Chiang Mai is a relative metropolis that just happens to be really close to a bunch of nature.

Now if they could just do something about all the air pollution.

If you want to join us we are still doing 3 runs a week at least into the foreseeable future. You can get full details by looking at our official website

That is a bit rude and I would also be cursing because these runs are meant to be enjoyable and not necessarily challenging.
