People sometimes think that because the Hash focuses on a "run" that they are not going to be in good enough shape to come and join us. They think they will be embarrassed by how everyone is in such great shape and they are left in the dust.
Now I'll be honest, there are a few guys and girls in our group that are fast and treat every meetup as if it was the New York Marathon but for the most part, we are not fast people.
For starters, the average age of our members is likely well over 55 years of age and many of us don't really get any exercise other than going to the Hash. We are not athletes for the most part. We are just a bunch of men and women who want to socialize but would like the meetings to be a little more interesting than just meeting at the pub.
That being said, after most Hash meetups we all go to the pub.
I kept his face out to save him feeling bad about this picture being online but I want you to look at that guy and ask yourself if you think he is an elite physical specimen? You think so or no? I think most people would say no but understand this: He is one of our most consistently fast runners.
I've said it many times before and I'll keep saying it until I run into a Hash House Harriers chapter that actually is filled with athletes: We are not like that. For the most part we are a group of people that get together to go for a walk, or a run if you are feeling up to it, in nature and then sit around and drink beer together before heading out to get some food and of course, more beer. Most weeks almost all of our members probably consume more calories than they actually burn on the run. This is the nature of Hashing and why it is so much fun.
Getting some exercise is probably something that is good for all of us anyway.
I'd like to remind once again that there are thousands of Hash House Harriers chapters on all 7 continents worldwide. Go find one near you!
Meeting together to discuss something will be resolved smoothly, is really fun and has good results.
Looks really laid back lol and any more relaxed everyone would be sleeping. Great to see that the doors are open to everyone as it is a social gathering at the end of the day.
yep... there have only been a couple of people in 40 years that we had to reject from membership. For the most part we are a very welcoming group and will only toss back people that probably should be in prison.

It's obvious it's a matter of motivation, you need not be a physical specimen, but strong in the mind. I believe icing a human and serving them a warm beer is a strong motivator.
well i would be lying if I was to say that I would have the same amount of enthusiasm for our runs if they were alcohol free. :)
it is refreshing to get out there in the countryside. It is a nice peaceful break from the city life
